Yes. The manga goes far past the anime, and the anime cuts out the an entire arc from the manga, so they can rush straight to the ending! >.<

So yes, you're basically right. ^_^

Oh, its one of my favorite manga's, but the anime is kind of shit in the last few episodes because of its anime only ending. -_-+ On the bright side, it has an amazing soundtrack. I recommend watching it first, then reading the manga. Or just reading the manga entirely. ^_^
