"Chuunibyou" is one of the anime I knew literally nothing about, yet its poster looked intriguing enough for me to consider watching it. One short gif of it was actually enough to encourage me to watch the show in the end, and man, am I grateful I did! Let me start from the beginning though.

"Chuunibyou demo Koi ga Shitai!" is another slice of life anime in a school setting, plus it's a rom-com. For whatever reason that concept never gets boring, making it feel entirely fresh is a different thing though.

The story's protaganist is Yuuta, a guy about to face the reality of going ... to high school. He feels insecure about his past and how he was acting in middle school, purposely choosing to continue his studies far from his home, hoping not to come across people he used to know. Unfortunately, reality is far from how he imagined his future and eventually he finds himself surrounded by things he was so desperate to forget about.

When a girl named Rikka becomes his neighbor AND turns out to go to the same class as he does, all of his efforts seemingly go for nothing, as Yuuta sees all of his former traits in her. The gal decides to stick to our protagonist, for she does not seem to have any other actual friends, excluding Dekomori, her internet friend, who also "suffers" from the "chuunibyou" state of mind. He, on the other hand, is far from being fond of her way of being. However, as their relationship progresses and he understands her better, Yuuta becomes a bit more understanding, eventually lowering the pressure he was trying to put on Rikka to change her.

An important part of the story are the "delusions", presented as actually well animated fights. In reality they may be e.g. a battle between an adult with a laddle and a kid with an umbrella, the way Rikka and some others see them are far more impressive though, making the experience unique.

"Chuunibyou" is quite possible the most wholesome and heartwarming story I've ever seen, leaving me with a big grin every few scenes. The comedy is great as well, ideally exaggerateted and able to catch you off guard multiple times. The characters are a strong aspect of the anime, especially Yuuta made the journey feel real. I have to admit, I do relate to him: escaping his past, trying to avoid it at all costs, even if it means entirely changing his environment. Seeing your old features in others and persuading them to change themselves feels just as real to me and I did feel guilty watching some of the episodes to be fair. After all, trying to change the way your friends are may not do any good. You may now dislike what you used to enjoy in the past, but it is okay for others to still like it. Even if their behavior feels weird or, in this case, childish, if it makes them genuiely happy, what point is in trying to take their happiness away from them?

Overall, "Chuunibyou demo Koi ga Shitai!" is without a doubt one of my favorite anime so far. Its original take on the genre, entertaining comedy and the fact it is such a heart-warmer made me thoroughly enjoy it. It made me draw some conclusions from it and hopefully it will make me a better person in the end.

Shingeki no Kyojin is quite possibly the most impressive unimpressive show I've ever seen. With some episodes being spectacular and others being incredibly dull, as well as the budget being such unevenly distributed, it manages to make you want to drop it for some time, with the sudden change of pace getting you hooked again. Let's break everything down though:

Art and Animation: 8/10

You know, one of the reasons I wanted to see Attack on Titan was definitely this show's art style. It feels unique compared to other anime I know and feels like a breath of fresh air. I find it kind of ridiculous how ... inconsistent it gets at times though, with some episodes looking like some of the greates budget cuts I've ever seen, followed by overwhelmingly fantastic animation sequences and astonishingly well-drawn objects in some of the first and final episodes of the season. A clear con here is the lip sync, which is really off at times.

Sound: imperfect 10/10

The AoT opening is possible the most well-known anime intro to date, at least for outsiders, becoming some sort of a meme at some point as well. Guren no Yumiya is a massive hit if you ask me, with the second opening being undoubtedly less recognized, but also on point. The soundtrack in the first episode left me with my jaw wide opened, followed by great tracks in all the next episodes. There is one electronic track in the OST of questionable quality, but it appears very rarely, so I'll act like I just missed it.

Story: 8/10

I'll try to keep this section spoiler-free, only describing show's general vibe. Shingeki no Kyojin is the most depressing show I've ever seen, leaving stuff like Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood far behind it. The reality in which the characters live in is truly horrifying, with hope being unfounded, and fear as the only justified feeling. Even when the light in the tunnel appears, everyone is far from believing in success. While atmosphere of that kind is what I usually avoid in the shows I watch, Attack on Titan manages to keep the plot interesting, with minor progress of the main cast being the driving force of the show. Even if such despair-filled series aren't your thing, this might be a game changer for you.

Enjoyment: 9/10

The first half of the season really didn't impress me that much, yet Attack on Titan managed to make the plot interesting with some twists to its second half. Even if I'm not entirely sold on the show and I do think it could have been improved in multiple ways, it still is a good anime worth checking out at some point. It might not be your cup of tea, but it sure will leave an impression on you and you'll probably find it difficult to get it out of your head.

Alrighty, first MAL review, let's go! Not sure how those ranks above the review box work, but I'll act like I understand how they work.

Kill la Kill was an anime I both really wanted to watch and really didn't want to watch. In the end, no matter how discouraging the Ecchi tag looked and how weird it was to read it's weird enough to feel weird when someone catches you watching it, something told me to watch it anyway.

Some very minor spoilers below, I guess.

Art: 10/10

First of all: is it just me, or does Ryuuko look like Shadow the Hedgehog? Not even kidding, the ... first time I saw her I thought "hey, that's shadow as an anime girl". Jokes aside, the protagonist of the story is one of the most well designed characters I've ever seen (not that I'm some kind of expert or anything), it's just great!

The art style in itself feels unique compared to most anime I'm aware of, it just makes me want to check more Trigger's works. There's something particularly neat about it, looks like pure fun! Speaking of fun...

Story: 10/10

One thing is for sure, the guy who said KlK was "PURE FUN" in some anime document I found a few weeks ago was SO right! If you're expecting comedy from Kill la Kill, you better rethink watching the show. The show crosses the border of your regular comedy and it feels like so much more than that. While the humor in this anime may not be for everyone, I for one loved it! It honestly made me realize I'm into some kinds of gags I'd never expect to like. Add some crazy pacing to it, and the ride becomes even more hilarious, ayy!

On the other hand, comedy isn't all Kill la Kill is about. The plot line in itself is probably one thing which surprised me the most. The show keeps its serious main theme despite all the comedic reliefs, and it's the story which kept me intrigued and invested. Once everything kicks in, the plot becomes unpredictable and simply fascinating. I find it incredible, how an anime, where the most important theme actually is the ecchi in itself, still manages to have such a serious main plot, seemingly without any holes in it (that is, unless I missed something, I really don't think so though).

Sound: 10/10

The soundtrack is another important aspect of the show. The BGM doesn't limit itself to three or four tracks (while some anime do seem to do that), while some characters obviously have their own themes. The sound effects are also on point, whoever was dealing with all the SFXs did a great job. The openings and endings can be recognized by some catchy tunes as well, which obviously is a huge pro.

Enjoyment: 10/10

Kill la Kill seems to have broadened my horizons in terms of what I enjoy watching. I honestly wasn't too invested in it for a few episodes, but when the plot kicked in, I started watching it with real excitement, and my jaw on the floor multiple times. While the show does seem to have its flaws (e.g. the lip-sync wasn't exactly perfect), there wasn't anything to overwhelm me in a bad way. Overall, I recommend this anime to everyone willing not to take their anime too seriously. It really is worth it!
