So this is my first anime review here on MAL and bo-hoi do I have things to say about this abomination. I really, really wanted my first review to be somewhat professional and objective without any bias but I just HAD to review this just to let people know how dreadfully painful it is to watch this abortion of an anime every week just to feel the acomplishment of enduring the whole thing. SERIOUSLY!!!

their mind?
Sort of like the infamous MK-Ultra.
I felt this was that for me.
But I just couldn't stop watching the train wreck. It's like watching watching an airplane's engine die and take a dive from the skies. You know the end result is gonna be ugly but you can't look away for some reason.
Just to let people know. I was a manga reader before going into this so I knew what kind of thing was specting. It wasn't much but hell, I was at least hoping to be mildly entertained, which I am, but not in the way that I wanted. I even own the freaking manga! This ''thing" was just painful to watch through and through. And I say thing because this seriously CANNOT be called an anime. It should be ILLEGAL to do so.
Now, with my rant out of the way I want to rate each section of this thing accordingly the best I can without getting triggered just by the thought of me wasting time on this.
Story - 1/10
As I mentioned before, I am a manga reader. At least for the "first" King's Game part of the story. You see, this thing is divided into two diferent stories of two diferent King's Games that our MC, Nobuaki, goes through. The first King's Game, in which everyone except him died is told by flashbacks to his current classmates. The second King's Game involves Nobuaki's second class. At the moment of this review I've seen 6 episodes. This almost concludes the first game but the second one is just getting started so I dont know how it will play out.
The problem with the story is that it tries to tie two completely diferent, although related, stories into one and fails to do so so badly. First, I'll adress the elephant in the room: The Flashbacks. Making the first game be told by flashbacks completly ruins the point of the game in the first play since we know Nobuaki survived and everyone else from the first class didn't. This also cuts into the second game's story way to often to the point where progress in the story is almost non-existant. Imagine a bit more than a single day has passed in the current story in the span of 6 episodes... Yeah, it's that bad.
The original story wasn't a modern masterpiece but It could have been adapted in a way that wasn't a sore to the eye to watch.
Art - 2/10
What can I say about the art other than... meh. The thing I can probably talk about the most is the gore scenes. Honestly it feels they're just there for visual impact but its actually more cringe inducing than anything. The animation just looks stiff most of the time. Body movements don't feel or look like they're supposed to.
Sound - 4/10
Again. Just... meh. I can't even remember a single soundtrack. No, not a soundtrack that I enjoyed, just a soundtrack. If the OST is that unmemorable then you know its bad.
The voice acting is just bad all around. The characters don't convey emotion like a real person should. Friends are dying in front of their eyes and they freak out and scream. Yet they can't express their emotions like a human should even if their life depended on it. Oh wait, it DID depend on that once, lmfao.
The saving grace in this category is the OP song, which is pretty good. That alone bumped up this score to a 4 and the overall score to a 2.
Just be reminded that this is the category that I rated the highest. And it's a FOUUURRR.
Characters - 1/10
All of these characters are so badly written it makes me cringe. First of all, Noubuaki wasn't such a coward in the manga, but here they make him look extremely weak-willed. The rest of the cast just feels like they're mentally retarded and can't think straight for more than 10 seconds. Sure, you could argue that they're being thrown into a situation no one knows how to handle but they don't even try to do anything to stop it. They just wait it out until they die at best and try to sabotage each other at worst. They lack any logic behind their reasoning.
Enjoyment - 1/10
This category is the most subjective one of all of them. It all comes down to personal preference and since it comes to that I'll state my personal opinion:
IT'S FUCKING SHIT!!!
If you watch this knowing it will be bad only to make fun of it maybe you'll enjoy it more, idunno. Maybe you'll watch it as a comedy anime or something and maybe, just maybe, you'll find a way to actually enjoy it. Although that seems like a far cry.
Overall - 2/10
I don't even know what to say at this point. I've let out all my rage just writing this review only so I can show how much I hate it to random people I will never know. Seems like that qualifies me as a professional anime critic now... hurrah.
Now if you'll excuse me, I have to make a joke about bleaching my eyes to get the point through to my friends.
