There's no anime that capture the essence of war, every destruction and sorrow it causes, as good as this one, truly one of a kind.
The story itself mainly revolves around two magnetic, highly charismatic figures, that is Yang Wen Li from the FPA (Free Planet Alliance) and Reinhard Von Lohengramm of the Galactic Empire. The show did a fantastic job in establishing those two characters, their clashing ideology and how they relationship unfold to those that significant to each of them. The world building is immaculate, each episode's slowly widen the curtain of what happened in this galaxy that brimming of wars, and the

repercussions that come after it. And I'm not even started yapping about the side characters yet, which is equally amazing, and (probably) the most interesting pieces of this series. While it could overwhelmed a lot of folks that trying to remember their name (good luck lol), almost every characters has a distinct traits that set them apart from the others. There's Siegfried which is your typical straight to the heart best friend (Galactic E.), Oberstein the enigmatic yet manipulative right hand (Galactic E.), Julian the unwavering and loyal foster kiddo, Braunschweig the conceited, pretentious noble (Galactic E.), the list goes on and on.
That being said, the show itself just fall sort of being a complete perfection. While the art and background were drawn beautifully, the animation itself were stiff (which is totally understandable, as it came in the late 80s) and the mostly unfitting classical music that kind of take you out of the experience sometimes.
All in all, give it a try and see it for yourself. I can't recommend this as a must watch for everyone, nor do I can labelled it as a greatest of all time (need to finish it first (on course tho lol)), but if you already hooked when the first episode started the monologue, you've had a hard time letting it go.
hooooo boyy
