I am a late comer to anime and have different perspectives/tastes than those who grew up watching the classics. I am not huge into Shonen but would still recommend this anime.
The good:
The animation still holds up and at times is really damn good. Overall I enjoyed the plot and its pacing, unlike something like AoT, FMA:B provides enough information to the viewer (without treating you like an idiot) to keep you keep you interested in the mystery. The show may be about the supernatural, but it is only superficial. It reeks of 90's OVAs that were ultra violent for the sake of being ultra violent, and not in a fun way. Gore and disgust are used to hide a nonsensical plot filled with characters that have equally nonsensical motivations. It really feels like the writer is clueless about the subjects used but tries to sound cool anyways.
