A disappointment to season 1. I'm not here to hate on this anime. This is actually probably my favorite romance anime. Out of the +100 I've finished in my life. Even so, I won't be biased towards S2 just because I loved the first season. I gave S1 a 8/10, and this one a 5/10. Hear me out.
(Contains spoilers. Watch S2 first, if you don't like spoilers. It's only 12 eps + 1 OVA.)
I own both seasons. After finishing S1, you're happy and excited to go into S2.
You're like yes! They're finally going to start going out. Nope.
S2 ep 0 is an OVA I
...
believe. And it's all about Kurumi of all people. A side character, who acts like a sociopath. Who hates the main character, and is in love with her love interest. And to make matters worse, you just wanna see what happened between Sawako, and her crush, Kazehaya. But this ep is all about Kurumi, and it mainly just recaps everything that's happened up until that point. It was hard to watch. And not a good way to start out the second, and last season.
After that from what I remember, they introduce a new character. Since it's a new school year for them. His name is Kent, and he's almost as equally annoying as Kurumi. This is my second time finishing the series, after almost 3 years.
Now I understand that certain things happen just to create what if scenarios.
For example, I know they introduced Kent just to pull the ole switcharoo.
(They did that a lot in this season.) Kazehaya is good looking, popular, and plenty of girls crush on him. Sawako on the other hand, is infamous, weird, and many think she's unattractive/bland. So they kind of had to introduce a new character who specifically likes Sawako. To see how Kazehaya would react if he had to compete with somebody over Sawako. As opposed to S1, when Sawako had to compete with Kurumi and all the girls, for Kazehaya.
One thing I do love about this show overall. Is Sawako's unique personality.
She's brutally honest to the point it's cringeworthy sometimes. At times when the camera pans, and you can't see their mouths. I would think she's saying something internally, just to find out she said it aloud. Another example is in S1 when she confesses to her whole class to clear up something she thought was a misunderstanding. It's also easy for her to get taken advantage of/manipulated since she's just starting to get used to having friends.
Her voice actress does a great job in her role. Especially when Sawako gets embarrassed. That's one of the main things I love about anime, as opposed to manga. Voice acting, music, and sound effects really bring out the mood and how other people see Sawako at times. Anyways, she does start to open up and change through the show. And does things unexpectedly (even though I'm re-watching it, but I forgot) that she wouldn't have done otherwise. If she hadn't made new friends, and remained and infamous outcast.
Like even though it's just the opening, in the S2 op she acts just like a normal girl, lol. She becomes even more popular. And instead of being seen as weird/bad luck. People praise her, talk/hang out with her, and like her now.
The reason I was disappointed in season 2 was because it was half the size of S1, heavily rushed, too much filler, boring at times, and repetitive. Somebody who left a Reddit article titled "Wtf is wrong with Kimi no Todoke S2" shares similar thoughts on how I feel. (Look his article up if you want.) Honestly it felt like the creators had nothing to go off of, and just stretched it out as along as they could. After watching S1, and seeing S2, you should know what I mean.
Don't get me wrong, I'm glad they finally confessed to each other.
And even though they never held hands, or kissed. It was heart warming to see them finally showing affection towards each other. Like when they were hugging in the classroom. Even though Joe ruined the moment, of course.
(If I was Kazehaya, I would've been punched Joe for c*ckblocking and being an idiot.) Anyways, most anime are left unfinished intentionally so people will go read the manga. Since most anime are adaptations of manga. The ending wasn't the worst, but it was left unfinished and rushed. Even though it's a high school slice of life rom-com, it does get pretty sad sometimes. Like in S1 when she wants to spend Christmas with her friends, but she doesn't wanna hurt her dad's feelings and stars crying on the phone in front of her parents. That sadness I felt was natural, and understandable. S2 is only sad because Sawako and Kazehaya start acting like strangers over a misunderstanding of what 1 person tells them...
I was like cool they're finally dating. I want to see them go on a date together.
Instead it's the last episode, the ending song starts playing, and they just go to a planetarium. Another thing I anticipate when an anime couple still in school start dating is. Hey, I want to see them go over to each others house. (Don't get to see that either.) Or meet each others parents. (Also don't get to see that.)
We do get to see all the students reacting to them finally dating which is pretty funny. But S2 was just too rushed. S2 ended in 2011. And the manga ended 6 years later. So if you want closure. (Even though I prefer anime over manga.)
You'll have to read the manga for a proper ending.
(I've heard they become adults in the manga.) So that's enough reason to read it since they're still in high school in the anime.
P.S: The ending cracks me up. She ends up taking away her father's cherished Christmas gift from him. And ends up giving Kazehaya his Valentine chocolates like 4 months later LOL

One of the best romance anime out there. Season 1 that is. I felt season 2 was too short, heavily rushed, too much filler, and didn't have the satisfying ending that most of us wanted to see. I guess you have to read the manga for that.
Anyways, I just finished re-watching this anime for the first time almost after 3 years. And it's like a different experience for me now that I'm older.
Most romance anime tend to rush things. When it comes to confessions, and going out. But this one took things nice and slow. Their reactions, feelings, and actions are all pretty realistic. This
...
anime is different, and the main character is unique.
She's been an outcast for most of her life. And because of her crush, and a few other people. Throughout the show, she ends up opening up. And she'll do things that'll surprise me (because I forgot), even though it's my second time watching the anime.
She's brutally honest, and a bleeding-heart. To the point, where I would cringe sometimes. For example, she ends up making a confession in the beginning of the anime in front of her whole class to clear up a misunderstanding.
Overall, this is probably my favorite rom-com slice of life anime. The animation has also aged very well. Considering this anime aired almost 11 years ago (wow!) I definitely feel like I'll end up watching it for a third time in the future.
It's a bit of a shame that the second season was such a let down. I don't typically read manga. But in this case, you'll have to. Since the anime aired from 2009 - 2011. And the manga continued for 6 years after the anime ended.
I tried my best to keep this review spoiler free. It does get slow sometimes, repetitive, and boring at times. Which is why I gave it a 8/10. And the S1 ending wasn't as expected. But overall Kimi no Todoke S1 is definitely a classic romance anime!

Intro:
Neon Genesis Evangelion (1995) - One of the most iconic, successful, and controversial anime of all-time. I think it's kind of awkward reviewing this anime after first seeing it in 2014 I believe. (I plan on re-watching it again, soon.) I love seeing all the NGE references in other anime. It's an old, but classic anime. That is mainly popular in Japan. And not as well known in the USA. Buying DVDs, blu-rays, and VHS tapes of this show are really expensive and often bootlegged. Due to their rarity. And as of 04/26/19. This show has never been legally streamed anywhere. But is coming to
...
Netflix this year in June! I haven't watched NGE in maybe 2 years perhaps. But have watched it about 6 times including the movie, End of Evangelion. 3 times in English, and 3 times in Japanese. Most may prefer the Jap sub. But I feel as though the English dub has a sort've charm to it. That reflects newly dubbed anime around this time in 2000.
Story: This anime takes in a fortified city called Tokyo-3, in the year 2015. It's a post-apocalyptic, psychological, action/drama, mecha anime. Personally, I'm not a fan of mecha anime. But this is actually a deconstructed mecha anime. Meaning it throws out a lot of conventional features of standard giant fighting robot anime. For instance, the robots can bleed. And the pilots will have their nerves synced with their Evas (robots). So depending on their sync-ratio. It'll determine how much damage they'll feel when their Evas take damage. Higher sync-ratios means easier piloting. And one of the cons of the Evas is running out of power quickly when their power cords are severed. Allowing at most 5 minutes before powering down. The story mainly follows characters of NERV and some students from a nearby middle school some of the main characters go to.
NERV is a special organization designed to fight the Angels. The director of the show, at the time, Hideaki Anno. Was battling severe bouts of depression. And possibly other mental illnesses. So you see a lot of internal struggle with most of the characters throughout the show. This show is very aambiguous, at times. And doesn't always have clear-cut answers. I forgot where I read this. But I have done PLENTY of research over the years to try and find answers. And one of the people who worked on the show. Said it's supposed to be like that. Every person is supposed to interpret the show differently. From what I remember. The show mainly focuses on action in the beginning. And then psychology for the second half.
Characters:
There aren't too many characters in this anime that the show would really focus on.
Shinji Ikari - 1 of the 3 main Evangelion pilots. He's the pilot of the purple Eva, Unit-01.The other pilots are also the same age, 14. And all attend the same middle school in Tokyo-3. Shinji from what I've seen, is one of the most disliked characters in all of anime. It's pretty shocking to me considering he is the character the shows and movie, mainly focuses on.
No major spoilers, but I don't feel that way towards Shinji in the show. But do feel that way about him in the movie, End of Evangelion (The alternate ending to the original ending. Episode 24~26.) I sympathize for Shinji for many reasons. Considering he lost his mother at a very young age. His father abandoned him and seems bitter to him throughout the show. He ends up becoming a child soldier from episode 1. Even though he's obviously very reluctant, and scared. But does so, to protect the substitute from going . Rei Ayanami, one of the other main characters. Shinji is often said to be a coward by many people who saw the show. He tends to run away a lot and not face his problems directly and gets depressed often. Despite that, I do think he is still very courageous in the show. And in my opinion, the best pilot and fighter.
Rei Ayanmi - The pilot the blue Eva Unit-00. This shy, blue-haired, red-eyed girl is the "mysterious one" of the show. Her and Asuka are some of the most iconic anime characters of all time. People still cosplay these characters in their Eva-unit suits, +20 years after the show first aired in 1995. She's so liked in anime. Other shows have taken to copying her likeliness. They even gave it a name, The Rei Ayanmi Expy. When a character copies most of her behaviors. She's very quiet, keeps to herself, emotionless, robotic like, and will follow orders without question. And she closely resembles a younger version of Shinji's mom.
And lives by herself.
Asuka Langley Soryu - The pilot of the red Eva Unit-02. She's one of the most well knowned tsunedere anime characters. She very hot-headed, narcissistic, childish at times, and envious of others. She comes in later in the show from Germany, at episode 8. Her native language is German, but she's also fluent in Japanese. She's also highly intelligent. And graduated from college, despite still being a child. And like Shinji, she lost her mother at a young age too. Becoming emotionally scarred from that experience. She also plays as one of the potential love interests to Shinji.
Misato Katsuragi - The final main character. She's purple haried, and the only adult main character of the 4. And legal guardian to Shinji and Asuka. She, like the other 3 characters. Are all apart of NERV. And she serves as the captain and commander. Giving orders and battle tactics to the children, during Angel encounters. But is also a skilled fighter herself. As you will see in the movie, End of Evangelion. When she's not working. She likes to drink, party, go out, and is probably the most laid back character in the show. Being one of the only characters that actually seems to cares about the Eva pilots.
She was a survivor of a catastrophic world event called the Second Impact. Which left her traumatized. And gave her a vendetta against the Angels. Which promoted her to join NERV, later in her life. And she wouldn't end up speaking until her college years. She often struggles with building close bonds with people. Because of her fear of losing somebody close to her.
Evangelion Units - The giant mecha robots used by Evangelion pilots mainly to fight the Angels. Most of the Eva units through the show look different in appearance. And are mainly controlled by the one person who can sync with it. Putting an Eva unit to auto fight mode is only done as a last reort, since the Eva unit will have a mind of it's own. And might not follow any orders. Each Eva unit either fight bare handed, with melee weapons, or with guns.
Angels - Each angel is different in appearance. Most of them have a core (weakness), which the Eva units must find, then attack. To defeat the angel. Every angel has a different special ability. For instance, one angel later in the show. Attacks people psychologically. Often times when they're defeated. There will be a gigantic explosion shaped like a cross.
Production/Animation/Creativeness etc:
The studio (Gainax) which developed N.G.E at the time had several issues. Like money troubles, bankruptcy, and rushed deadlines. As a result, the animation throughout the show will downgrade. Or they'll do scenes with no moving animation for an extended period of time. Examples: Shinji at the train station, Asuka and Rei in the elevator, Shinji and the last angel standoff, and the controversial last 2 episodes. I've read a lot of articles, or people say that the animation for it's time wasn't exceptional. And that when the animation would downgrade, it was because they wanted to focus the budget on the fight scenes. I personally, like the animation style of N.G.E. Even though it isn't anything too unique, or special. But I do think they did a great job with the overall animation, structure, and creativeness of the show. Plenty of the fight scenes are some of most epic I've ever seen in anime.
Music, Sounds, and Voice Acting
I don't ever remember really having a problem with the sounds. They're nothing extraordinary most of the time. But it's indicative of anime for its time. They didn't have a big budget making this show. The music however. Like the opening, A Cruel Angel's Thesis. Is one of the most well known and iconic anime themes of all time. It's one of my favorite intros of all time. The music is epic, and orchestral. And some songs were sampled. Like one battle theme from a James Bond movie. One of my person favorites is the ending theme. A cover to Fly Me To The Moon. Almost every ending is a different version. And some of the voice actresses from the Japanese dub did a cover for the song too for some of the endings.
The voice acting for the Japanese dub is great. A woman voices the boy, Shinji. But she does a beautiful job. It sounds very convincing. Especially when the character is crying or letting out blood curdling screams. Anime is Japanese and is more popular over there. So it makes sense for them to have taken it more seriously than the English dub. Since English dubbing anime at the time wasn't popular. The English dub like I said before does have a certain charm to it. But in being completely honest. It seems really half-a#!ed to me initially.
That was my first impression of this anime. Unsurprisingly, ADV films. The ones who dubbed it in English. Also dubbed Ghost Stories. If you've seen any clips of the Ghost Stories English dub. Then you know what I mean. Overtime though, it has grown on me. And I actually love the English dub now. Because you get to see them improve as voice actors and actresses throughout the show, all the way to movie. And take their roles more seriously.
My Final Opinion:
One of the best anime every created. And my personal favorite after finishing +100 anime series throughout my life. Neon Genesis Evangelion created and left a spectacular legacy behind. Back then when the anime market was on the decline. N.G.E single handedly help bring anime to relevance and success again. N.G.E is often referenced in many other anime. The reason they took until 2019 to finally stream it. And physical copies are so rare and expensive. Was due to licensing issues. I believe this anime is so controversial due to it's ending, the movie, it's emotion, and violence. People hated the ending because it felt rushed, ambiguous, and unresolved. I honestly don't know why people feel that way. Since The End of Evangelion (my favorite anime movie) and alternate ending to those last 2 episodes is in my opinion, a masterpiece. They had a way bigger budget due to the shows success. And enough time to finally finish what they were working on. Some people hated the show so much at the time. They wrote death threat letters to do studio. Which were briefly shown flashing along with other pictures towards the end of the movie. As for the other reasons: The movie is controversial due to how much it confuses, surprises, and pushes boundaries. People will dislike how emotional the show can get at times. But I personally like that. Every character is going through their own problems. Considering everyday they have to fight for survival. People especially hate Shinji, since he cries an whines a lot. And the show can get pretty violent at times. I'd give the show a +14 rating. Even though some places give it an +17 for some episodes. The show was actually taken off the air at the time for being too violent. I use to study psychology. And have watched plenty of other psychological shows, movies, and anime. Nothing comes close to this anime. All the emotion in this show feels so real, and relatable to me. Hideaki Anno did a great job conveying emotion in this show. Overall, I can't recommend this anime enough for people to watch. It's only 26 episodes + the movie
(2 episodes.) People either love it, hate it, or don't understand it. But if you're a huge anime fan. I definitely recommend giving this anime chance some day. When you have the time. :)

One of my favorite anime. It's a slice of life comedy that mainly focuses on 4 high school girls. It's random, and does a lot of references to other anime.
I thought it was really funny at times, only thing about it is it's pretty short with only 24 episodes.
It's made by Kyoto Animation which created Clannad, The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzimiya, K-On!, Full Metal Panic! and more.
The main protagonist is Konata Izumi, which is who the anime mainly focuses on.
She lives with her dad, her mother passed away before the anime started, and her cousin ends up moving in with her midway
...
through the anime.
Konata's an otaku, who loves playing RPG games, watching anime, reading manga, and attending anime conventions. She even works at a cosplay cafe.
Two of her friends are fraternal twins, which means they aren't identical. And the other one comes from a wealthy family. Haven't watched another anime which uses the type of animation style Lucky Star uses. All the characters look rather young, even some adults.
A recommended anime for anybody who likes slice of life comedies.

Was, and still is one of my favorite anime. A very nostalgiac anime for me which is why I entirely re-watched it but in Japanese this time.
(For a different experience.)
The story revolves around two teenage brothers, Alphonse and Edward Elric.
The protagonists commit a "taboo" using alchemy which is the supernatural power in this anime. Which runs on "equivalent exchange." (You can't obtain anything without first sacrificing something in return.)
But before all this, their father leaves them at an early age. (The reason is later explained in the anime.) The boys then continue to live with their sick mother who later dies
...
of an unknown illness. But while their mother was still alive she let them study their father's books and notes which contained alchemic information.
The boys soon become indulged in alchemy and begin studying it onerously.
When their mother died, (around the time they're 7-8 years old) they find a teacher who then educates and trains them in the field of alchemy, hand to hand combat, and survival.
When their training is done and they come back home, they decide to use "human transmutation" to bring her back. It's a taboo among alchemists but the boys still go through with it in hope of seeing their mother's smile again. It then backfires on them causing Alphonse, (his younger brother) to entirely lose his body. While Ed loses his left leg. He then desperately tries to bring his brother back and bonds his soul to a suit of armor near by while sacrificing his right arm to do so.
Throughout it all Ed saw the "Truth," from the whole ordeal which gave him the ability to transmute without a transmutation circle. His neighbors, "The Rockbells" then give him an automail right arm and left leg. Ed later ends up joining the military becoming the youngest state alchemist and later becomes known as "The Fullmetal Alchemist." He's known to be a prodigy and uses the military to fund his research and find a way to get his and his brother's body back to normal. The brothers then endure trials and tribulations in search for a Philosopher's Stone which is said to amplify your alchemic ability. They learn the truth behind it, become resentful, but go searching for more information about it to see if there's another way to obtain it without *SPOILER ALERT* ............ sacrificing human lives.
That's basically the whole gist of the anime. A beautifully, well constructed, anime and has so much more than what I explained. Including awesome fight scenes and antagonists. I just gave a summary of the plot. I also would've given it a "10" but felt that would be bias. And for anyone who decides to watch it, who hasn't already, be sure to check out Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood, which is the second series after you've finished the first one (this one). It's contrary in multiple ways, sometimes picking up where the first one left off, and sometimes seems like a different anime in certain aspects.
