Story about indie band's raise to fame.
Story: Beck tells the story of Tanaka Yukio, how he joins the band Beck, and how this band raises to fame.
From all the music animes and visual novels I've seen or read, I found the story of Beck to be most realistic one. Beck tells realistically about the struggles young indie bands have to face when trying to gain popularity.
Pacing of the story is pretty slow at the beginning, but it really pays off in the end.
Only reason I didn't give story full 10, was that Ryusuke's relationships with popular American musicians felt too far-fetched for me.

style of Beck is more on the realistic side. It's not something I would personally call pretty or beautiful, but that was just fine. It suited the series really well. On negative side, the animation quality did drop once in a while in particular scenes, but it wasn't nearly as bad as some series sometimes have.
What I personally found particularly nice, was the detailed instruments series had.
Sound: Now then, this is where Beck really shines. Music used in Beck is more western styled rock music consisting mostly of insert songs sung by different bands in the series, and I really liked most of these songs. You could also tell that some of the fictive bands in the series were based on real rock bands. Dying Breed seemed like it was based on Nirvana, Rocket Boys was obviously based on The Beatles, and Beck, or at least songs with Chiba, were based on Rage Against The Machine.
What really stood out for me, was the Beck's cover of The Beatles song I've Got A Feeling. I never expected to see The Beatles song used in an anime series.
I really enjoyed the music of the series.
Characters: Characters of Beck were also very well done. Main character Yukio is your normal, easy to relate to middle school kid, who discovers music and develops into amazing musician.
You could also tell clear musician influences in some of the characters of the series. Mainly, both Chiba's singing style and appearance were clearly based on Zack De La Rocha of The Rage Against The Machine. Taira, bassist of Beck, was also practically young Flea, Red Hot Chili Peppers bassist, with blonde hair.
Only character I didn't really like was Ryusuke, lead guitarist of Beck. This doesn't mean that he wasn't very well written. His personality was just something that personally annoyed me.
Enjoyment: I really enjoyed Beck. I'm interested in rock music and I enjoy stories about bands, so it was perfect series for me.
However, I must point out that if you don't like western rock music, or you aren't at least slightly familiar with history of rock music, I don't think that you can fully enjoy the series.
Beck was the first series I've ever seen doing references to tons of popular western bands, like The Beatles, Led Zeppelin, Jimi Hendrix, Rolling Stones, Rage Against The Machine, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Radiohead and Nirvana, and if you aren't familiar with these, you will miss all these references.
Anyway, although Beck is not for anyone, I found it to be an amazing series about young bands raise to fame, and especially characters and music of the series were top-notch.
