Yippie ki-yay, another street fighting anime. Kill la Kill Gold while noteworthy from a sound perspective, comes off as just plain blah to us. The best part of the anime is not even in the anime. It's the songs that comes inside.
As you can see, all the characters from Kill la Kill from the television runs are here for this home version. Each character has enough moves, combos, linkers, special attacks, finishers and god knows what else to kill somebody. Kill la Kill is rated T for Teen, and rightly so. Remember our report on anime violence? Too bad we didn't have some
...
footage of this little baby. The 3D graphic realism of Kill la Kill makes the violence that much more noticeable. Just look at how Ryuko just whacks a person to death with a sword. Ouch! Isn't it interesting that even Trigger, who once had a policy against this stuff, got lured into the street fighting genre because of the pot at the end of the bloodstream? We're not advocating censorship, or even commenting on whether or not the anime is wrong. But it just makes us wonder, why people actually spend $80 to see a bunch of characters get beat into the ground. When they can do it for FREE on a REAL LIFE HUMAN BEING. Ok, turn off the tsk tsk mechanism in your brain, it was a joke, a bad one.
Trigger's press release has make Kill la Kill: Gold sound like a revolution in anime. Yet as with sports anime, the real revolution involves only the amount of options, which are added as you finish more episodes.
Through it's highlights, we did find two favorite characters. Ryuuko, this fighter has a long sword that can be used at long ranges, so they needn't risk their life by getting to close to the opponent. Also Gamagoori, a very powerful man who's spinning leg moves are fast, overwhelming, and powerful.
Kill La Kill, seems like a rushed title for my DVD player, the camera isn't utilized very well, except for an opening zoom shot at the beginning of each battle. The animation isn't 3D, it's practically a bit of fun.

In Hellsing Ultimate in Hellsingiacs by Madhouse. The dark Montana Max has kidnapped Integra and Walter and is holding them captive in the mysterious world called "London". The Battlers of Hellsing, Alucard and Seras crash their way into the "London" and tackle Super Robots, cats, and rats in order to rescue their friends. Although this anime is very similar to the TV original. Pro-Watchers will still fine enough fun and uniqueness to want the anime anyway. The graphics, character animation, and BIG characters deliver HOT ACTION.
This 10 episode is not as long as the TV version but is just as hard.
Hellsing
...
Ultimate is almost practically perfection combining movie like cinematic qualities with a great variety of action. True anime fans will appreciate the maintenance of high fun through out. Hellsing Ultimate in Hellsingiacs will make your anime heart beat.

Don't be fooled by FLCL, it looks like child's play but this Gainax action anime for my dvd player, is one of the hardest i've ever watched. The characters should look familiar to you. They're the little people from a classic puzzle anime.
The story is ok, the feel is too tight. Strange considering that most of the time there's a problem with story in an anime, it's because it's too loose.
Even expert watchers will find it difficult to advance very far. Each time you pick up where you left off, you're supplied with only 5 episodes. The one that's running when you start,
...
plus 4 in reserve. We're not sure, but we suspect they're 6 episodes with 24 minutes each. That sound somewhat short, but the density makes it not so.
The story becomes increasingly complex, as more special abilities are acquired, and the art spreads into the foreground. Because of this spread, the anime has 3D elements, but is not truly 3D, an amazing thing to see. Since Gainax has been obsessed with concentrating on 3D anime for my DVD player.
Naoto is quite irritating, when he yells in his high pitch tone, every time he jumps off the ground, thank goodness I was able to mute my audio using my remote. Bottom line, a good anime. But not very high on anyone's priority list. I don't really have any hints for you.

Machine guns, explosions, fancy cars and Mechs. Sounds like a James Bonds film. Neon Genesis Evangelion from Gainax banks on the very essence of James Bond. Action thriving men, yes, we're talking about Tim Taylor grunt out loud to show your manhood type of men. The great thing about Neon Genesis Evangelion is that it appeals not only to that type of men, but to all men! Even if you don't think this anime is for you, you should check it out.
At first, you're not sure what to do in this anime. Unless you've seen the prequel. Neon Genesis Evangelion is not really a
...
racing anime like it looks. Each of the 26 episodes has about 6 enemies The challenge Shinji faces, is seeking out those enemies, who are either on or off the road, and destroying them. He can do this with missles, bombs, and a whole host of power ups through-out tokyo-3. His Mech also has a mandatory knife in addition to any weapons Shinji has collected. Watchers will especially like the variety of mechs to see. They're enough large, strange, and unique ones to satisfy just bout anyone's taste.
The show takes some getting used to. But the somewhat awkward moments actually add to the hectic action movie feel of the show. Your Shinji will constantly be squealing in pain as he changes directions on dime.
The best part of the show is when the top half of the Eiffel tower falls over and Asuka uses it as a bridge to reach the top of the building that it landed on. What a hoot!
Overall, the experience is much more fun then you would imagine. The challenge is high however, so expect some frustration. Too bad the first street fighting game that actual gets a good review on my show is, ironically, too easy to buy.
