Somehow expands on every aspect of the world while being worse in every way compared to the first, which itself went from top anime of the season in the first 3 episodes to bargain bin anime by the end of the first.
But it's a trainwreck you just can't stop watching.
For that reason I do not recommend you start, as I will likely be watching the 3rd season despite all this because the show is written in just the right way to hold the viewer hostage, ending on a cliff hanger that you need to see completed.... that is resolved by the end of

You will like this one. Characters you truly feel for. A world that could use expanding, but what they show has enough detail to enjoy and feel thought out. Dialogue that will get a tear or two from you by the time you're done it. Some pretty solid animation at times, especially the fights. Carried by out-of-the-ordinary character designs. Some issues with CG that were par for the course the year it released, but nothing like Berserk remake or Golden Kamuy. ...

A great psychological thriller with fantasy/supernatural elements that got buried in a busy season.
If you can enjoy an anime where the characters are likeable, but are convincing, or where a lot happens that contradicts itself, but done in the context of the show to make its setting more believable, you'll enjoy this. I wouldn't call this a thought intensive anime like some of the other reviews, that's people stroking their ego. If you can understand basic plot devices and watch attentively (not texting, not gaming second monitor) you will fully understand this show. I think more people should give it a chance, it works ...

Fans of Showa Genroku Rakugo Shinju will get a taste of something they may enjoy again, but may be left wanting for more.
Many of the best of Deen's longtime VA talent join together and give perhaps their most emotional and heartfelt performances in a decade. But the story almost seems hostile to the viewer in that it wants you to get invested over and over again only to never give any payoff, aside from a few moments. That describes much of every episode, but also the series at large. I wanted to LOVE it, but I come away just liking it. Not bad, not ... |
