Welcome to my aesthetically pleasing swamp where you discover just how much of a weeb-in-training I am. Oh, I'm Azu.
The first time I watched anime(and heard Japanese) was when my sister was watching K-On in the living room and I thought to myself, "Why are they speaking backwards?".
Surprisingly, I was able to read subtitles proficiently enough to understand the context at the age of seven years old, but I never realized that there was actually languages besides Tagalog and English, so that was quite surprising. It was an entirely different realm of entertainment, but I liked it.
Afterwards, I dug into my sister's anime collection where I watched now considered classics like Clannad where I silently bawled my eyes out despite being way too young to understand profound topics. Thinking about it now, I think I also just wanted to fit in with my older cousins, and that's probably where I got my people pleaser and the tendency to hang out with older friends. One time, I showed an episode of Lucky Star to my older cousin who was a gamer, because Konata was also a gamer.
Before I knew it, it's been twelve years ever since, and the influence of anime in me has mostly been positive because I get to connect with many people and that specifically goes to my sister where we share a lot of common interests now. I guess the only con that I had with watching anime so early is how it fucked up my speech because the Japanese accent and language has been engraved deeply enough where I pronounce words how it would sound in Japanese, and well that's pretty cringe coming from a non-Japanese person.
My nickname, "Azu" came from the characters inside two of the earliest anime that I watched: K-On(Azusa) and Astarotte's Toy(Asuhariet). K-On is by far one of my all time favourite, if not my all time fave anime. Astarotte's Toy however is anything but innocent. It is hilariously inappropriate and by all means, not something a seven year old should watch, but I couldn't help it because I look for covers that look girly and pretty, and then asking my mom to buy it. To be honest, my innocence probably saved me, because with all the worldly knowledge I have now- I would've been horrified.
But yes that concludes my unnecessary introductory statement. If you have any romances with a guy that is so chill and smooth he barely speaks, and a girl who's open and lively(yes like My Love Story with Yamada-kun), message "azuhariet" on discord.
