Chuunibyou: A Philosophy of the Self - Our Greatest Fear
When I watched the first episode of this anime, I will admit that I did not get sucked into the show as much as I would for other titles, but as always, I decided to give it a try by watching the next few episodes. I have to say that that decision was one of the best ones I've made in relevance to anime over the last quarter of 2012.
The first half of the anime does a fairly good job of introducing the characters, later showing the viewers their true colours and what they represent in
...
literature. Meanwhile, the second half, the one that I have decided to focus my review on, is the philosophical question of: What is one of the greatest things that human beings inherently fear?
I came to the conclusion that the answer is simply, ourselves. We as humans try so hard in everyday life to fit in - to be part of the norm that society has created for itself, and we have been so blinded to see that disorder would only ensue if we showed our true selves to the world.
But Chuunibyou defies that theory completely! The truth of the matter is, our true selves, our self-consciousness is and will be forever a part of us. It is something that society cannot simply change. This is a great factor that separates human beings from other living creatures on Earth - we have a conscious mind which allows us complete free will and self power!
I truly recommend this anime to anyone who feels that their true self isn't good enough for the world, because truly I tell you, this anime may just be the thing to change your mind.
Also, I loved the Mayan Apocalypse 2012 reference in the last episode :D
