Both have really exciting plots that bridge the gap between reality and fantasy and keep you on the edge of your seat throughout. The plots aren't particularly similar but the realism and exciting portayal make them both brilliant reads.

Both set during war time in Japan. Barefoot Gen is a really heart-wrenching story about one boys struggle after the bombing in Hiroshima. Not for the faint-hearted.
