The movie concept is about pursuing your dreams and accepting that nothing in your plans or life will go as expected. Josee is rude to Tsuneo for no apparent reason when he helps her when they first meet. There are aspects of overprotectiveness, manipulation, and guilt-tripping in the relationship between Josee and her grandmother. Not only that, but Josee does not communicate with the male lead. The animation is clean and smooth, and the soundtrack is great. The overall premise was interesting. People in a city filled with inexplicable bubbles that changed their form of living? Got me hooked. But the dialogue is awkward and unnatural which disengages the audience. And the ending is very obvious from the connections made to another common tale.
Also, there is little to no character depth. Since the story was rushed to have an unnecessary conflict that does not contribute much to the plot or make much sense. Because of these, the interactions between the characters are not delved into much the bonds ...

This anime has themes of loss, found family, friendship, and death, and overall has the overall question of "What makes the human experience beautiful despite its hardships, misfortunes, and darkness?" It also delves into the impact a single person can make as insignificant as they are to others, they are special in their way. Also, it plays with the question of "why bother making connections when it will only hurt one way or another?" This anime is realistic in many aspects the greediness of humans and the slow loss of hope in a desperate situation.

The story is great not because of the main character but the rest of the cast. The main character constantly cries and is incompetent. His determination is shallow. The rest of the cast is determined, good at fighting, driven, and has its drive. There are a few realistic aspects of gangs. The time travel elements show how things can change and allows us to glimpse at different outcomes of characters.
But the main character lacks courage, confidence, and redeemable traits. Everyone else is likable but him. I would never watch it again, but I enjoyed the path of the other characters.

The friendship between the main characters is strong because they have to protect each other and themselves from their kind. For example, the human girl protects Fine from humans while humans themselves are a threat to her. this is because they both "betrayed their kind" and chose an unconventional life for themselves.
Their bond is genuine and goes through the constant struggle of survival, acceptance, and pure happiness. Their worlds are in chaos, and they only find paradise in each ...

The second season delves more into the struggles of having a loved one on the opposite side of war. Mika the second main character adds depth to the story because of his selfishness, fear, and love towards his family. He is willing to sacrifice everything to have the companionship of a loved one. The stakes and losses are higher in the story. But the recklessness and stubbornness of the other main character ruin the story.
Also, the impact of the war only affects the side characters deeply not the main cast. And since there are no heavy burdens on them other than survival and protecting ...

But we don't see the constant despair from the main character since he focuses on revenge making his character diluted since his vulnerability is no longer shown.
