I randomly came across this anime after seeing it on the popular anime tab via Crunchyroll. When I saw it, I decided to check out what the first episode would be like. But when I did, I knew I would be going on a journey through the lives of Isla, Tsukasa, and the members of Terminal Service One.
With the beginning of the anime starting off with Tsukasa meeting Isla for the first time, I felt that it would revolve around the comedy that each character brings. However, I was totally wrong in that regard since it was wholly romance. The beginnings of the series

taught me more about what Terminal Service One does and how Giftia's are created to serve people that choose to get one. From the episode of the old lady who would refuse to give her Giftia away to the episode where Marcia is kidnapped by the black market retrievers, I only thought it would be similar to how the TV show CSI is run; for those of you who don't know, CSI is run on a sequence of events. First off being the murder, second being the CSI members analyzing the evidence and determining who the killer is, and lastly, capturing him/her. While, it's not a bad formula to work with, there's so much more you can do with it. Like, for example, providing character development.
But that's where I was totally wrong. Plastic Memories doesn't just show viewers the day to day life of a worker at Terminal Service One, but it utilizes the fact and evolves the relationships that Tsukasa has with Isla, Michiru, Zack, Kazuki, and many more. Although there were several cringeworthy moments that I had to skip, the entire story was incredibly solid. By the last episode, I couldn't believe that I had binged the entire series in a few days and was wondering how it would end. Well, to say the least, I cried at the end...
The key phrase that stuck out to me throughout the series was "I hope you will be reunited with the one you cherish" because it's pretty relevant to how we go on about our daily lives. While we think that life is pretty long, it's not. Deaths happen everyday from various causes and we get older. Through all of this, this anime has helped me understand that valuing, and cherishing, the people we communicate with on a daily basis is the most incredible thing we can do for each other. Without it, we're just listless people bored out of our minds. Thank you to the creators of Plastic Memories because like the title says, these memories don't last forever. When we are gone, our memories go with it. We are Giftia's in a sense and should use our time to make the most out of it.
