GGO Alternative is basically SAO with all the things that made SAO great without all the things that, in the long run, ruined SAO so bad.
We have the possibility to explore the gaming experience, a realistic future gaming experience. Stakes are really high, but without the plot-holes we found in SAO.
No harems, no imoutos, no fanservice, no forced romances (even if I think KiritoxAsuna is one of the most solid anime couples). Only a good game.
Characters are really really good, the protagonist but even the "normal" gamers. And the "antagonist" is really a good and solid character, with real motivations and I think real motifs

Take away sex. Add romance schemes, diabeetus, fluffly and immediate relationship resolved in thirty seconds. Here you are Tsurezure Children. No story, no real character development outside their love story, no particulary funny reason to laugh. Romcoms work if charachters are relatable, grow up, you can be happy or sad for them. Here there are "General sport guy A" meets "General deredere B", or "General geek C" is loved by "general shy girl D". A big meh. Yes, there are some "smart" choices, "Tsurezure Children" show us lots of types of confessions, first kisses, friends helping each other in love stuff, even real unconventional ones... But...
