What starts out as a fresh comedy show sadly and quickly breaks down into a melodramatic teenage romance mess with neither depth nor comedy nor anything worthwhile really. The first ~ 4 episodes sort of really hook you in, especially with how funny some scenes are, but the story then never goes anywhere, opens up a ton of side plots that aren't interesting and basically carbon copies of each other.

While initially the characters promise some depth or at least variety and possibility for growth, none of that is ever realized, probably because too many characters are given screen time with nonsensical melodramatic conflicts that ... are resolved in the same half-assed way every time. Ultimately, I was really let down by this and I think most viewers who are looking for comedy romance with a twist will be disappointed as well. The show hits a wall early and then just scrambles around in mediocre lukewarm trope puddles until it has the decency to just end.

The amazing art style and soundtrack is tremendously enhanced by the random yet striking humorous inserts that never failed to surprise. The characters are also well-developed and likable. The overarching story is interesting. Sadly, the anime ended and does not seem to have a continuation on the horizon while the story in the Manga gets really rolling. Some story bits, especially around the antagonist are heavily contrived though. There are some inexplicable 'Gary Stu' characteristics thrown at him which made the character fall really flat. The crew around Yona on the other hand were much more interesting. Overall, this is a superbly fun show to ... watch and I really hope we'll get a 2nd season despite it being very unlikely.

The cool art style and animation can't really help the show's overall lack of focus, character development and creating anything worth any sort of investment beyond some cheap shock factors. The villains are a joke, the heroes are a joke, everyone is a lazy trope and only potentially the powers were interesting. But the scaling was so tremendously off that it just made no sense. Every explanation for any 'mechanic' or 'lore' was mostly ex machina bs. the ending - without spoiling it - was a disappointment as well. The anime tried to just string together a bunch of cool looking people hoping the cool ... aesthetic will overshadow the lack pf personality or actual story. It didn't. It was an okay watch, one time only, no need to revisit this for anything.

The MC is some sort of genius but it's inexplicable how everything just falls into place for him. It's extremely monotonous and boring and will only be liked by those who crave the 'shy and unremarkable guy is actually amazing' wish fulfillment fantasy. For everybody else, this is a massive waste of time. Art style is okay I guess. I don't understand why this is classified as Seinen, this is made for teens at best. I also forgot every single character due to how unremarkable and boring they were. I find nothing interesting. This has no thriller elements, no mystery, nothing, it's just a bland ... power fantasy.

Overall, this is an okay episodical show about a witch on a journey who meets different people in different places. Most stories are rather forgettable, the standout stronger stories are surely EP 4 and EP 9. What makes this entertaining enough are the likable characters and the humour that isn't overbearing but simply accompanying the rest of the show. The high quality animation and soundtrack also bolster this show. Why is it still a mixed bag then? Because while it does nothing bad, it also does nothing exceptionally well. You can watch it and enjoy your time with it but it won't stick with you ... like really good shows usually do.
