Hunter x Hunter is an anime I would recommend to any keen new watcher of anime. It has everything from well thought out fights, amazing character development and depth, intricately planned stories, etc. This show in my honest opinion deserves the title of Masterpiece, something very few anime deserve.

Story: 10/10

Hunter x Hunter exceeds greatly at its core story. The show has 7 arcs that have unique and distinct settings and characters showing a great range of genres incorporated from the phenomenally written tragic Chimera Ant to the simplistic and fun Greed Island, this naturally makes Hunter x Hunter a very unpredictable story that kept me ... entertained throughout my entire watch. The pacing of the anime is relatively decent, nothing too fast where it rushes the story and nothing too slow where the conflict and tension is ruined because of it. There are also just two filler episodes so almost all parts of the story are important. Togashi often subverts typical shonen tropes which make the story refreshing to see simply because it's something original within the medium. This overall makes Hunter x Hunter’s story a perfect 10/10 for me.

Art: 8/10

The art is pretty good. All the characters have amazing character designs that are memorable, allowing the story to feel realistic and fleshed out. The animation, especially within the fight scenes, are pretty astounding in my eyes. Of course there are anime that do overshadow Hunter x Hunter in terms of animation but for an anime made in the early 2010s, Hunter x Hunter is pretty much well animated.

Sound: 10/10

The music in Hunter x Hunter is beyond masterful, it really brings the scenes to life and accentuates the emotions felt throughout the story, whether it's the somber melancholic tone of the Yorknew arc to the cataclysmic action of the Chimera Arc to the jovial and lighthearted Hunter Exam Arc. Each track evokes the heart and soul of the story and makes this beyond a masterpiece, all I can say is they really did go all out with this one. 10/10.

Characters: 10/10

The characters are perhaps Togashis’s prowess as a writer. The characters in the show each have their own interesting motivations and intriguing dynamics with other characters that makes the Hunter x Hunter world be as vast as it is. The protagonists and antagonists don't necessarily represent good and evil within this story but rather are opposing sides that have both good and bad within them. The Phantom Troupe and Royal Guard are a good example of well written antagonist groups. The fours protagonists are simply wonders, each with their own loveable quality.

Enjoyment: 10/10
It simply is too enjoyable to not be a 10/10 for me. The beautiful world of hunter x hunter and its characters are something I’m grateful Togashi has created. It remains to this day my favorite anime and will likely hold that spot for all of time.

A very good introductory season. The plot works pretty good, it works in a mystery reveal packed with action and thrill that keeps you curious and wanting to watch more as the secrets of the attack on titan world get unravelled. Each episode keeps you on the edge of your seat and wanting more, very few shows have been able to do that. And that's not even mentioning the foreshadowing here, it's so crazy how there are little details that one misses on their first watch but absolutely recognises on a second watch, it happened for me.

The characters are good, nothing too intricate or complex ... but just interesting enough to make me root for them and understand their struggles. The comedy and banter between the characters is also quite funny and enjoyable. I also like how they touch on themes of animalism and cruelty, at the end of the season they wonder whether truly deserve victory if they act like monsters. A very good foundation for more complex and deeper themes to build on.

The animation is good, but a bit weird and funky in areas. The use of awkward cgi and unnatural animations is noticeable, although this happens a few times and doesn't hamper the series. The music here is phenomenal, Jiyuu no Tsubasa is an absolute banger, Guren no Yumiya is also pretty good. The only major problems I have with this season is that the story, characters and themes start off at a basic level, but it's easily remedied as they get deeper and more complex by the later seasons. Overall, a pretty good anime.

This film is a good attempt at creating it's own unique story within the world of Code Geass, the 4 classical protags still have the same likeable quality. In my opinion, I give it a good 8, mainly because I like the dynamic between Spike and Vincent, it basically foreshadows the end of the main show and at the end gives a similar thought provoking quote "Are you living in the real world?". I felt it was quite intriguing to see a character similar to Spike where they both feel "dead" in a sense.

The animation is truly amazing, even from watching this in 2023, if ... this movie was made using modern animation tools I'm sure it would've been one of the most visually pleasing mediums to watch. It shares the admirable quality with the show as well. The music also is fantastic, the songs are a nice mix which evoke various feelings and moods throughout the film such as the ending song which showed time moving on long beyond this entire movie and the beginning song which showed the daily life in the city.

However this film has some striking issues, one is that the villain isn't properly developed, Vincent as a character is barely fleshed out outside of his interactions with Spike, Electra and Faye. I don't understand what I'm meant to feel about him, his backstory is jsut too short and maybe some flashbacks of his past would've been nice but all we get is a few lines of exposition that are cryptic and impossible to decipher. Another issue is that Jet feels underused and feels like he's taken a backseat throughout. Furthermore the film is slightly too long so the tension is diluted but the last fight does also make up for this.

Overall an 8/10, a very good film that just needed some tweaking or else it would be a masterpiece.

Important to Note:

This film isn't canon. It doesn't exactly fit into the story and if it did, it wouldn't work in my eyes. However what this film does is give an exploration of the four main characters in a completely new setting from where they left off in the Yorknew Arc rather than trying to fit in with the narrative of the series.

Overall: 8

I found this movie to be very good and I actually enjoyed it quite a lot, and I'd reccomend it anyone who wants to see more hunter x hunter who has finished the entire series. So far, this is the first ... film out of the two HxH movies that are there and I haven't seen the other one yet.

Story: 8

In the movie we get to find out about Killua and Kurapika's past which was amazing, especially Kurapika's because his backstory scene is canon, and adds to weight to how he lost the Kurta clan.

I would say the tone contrasts quite a lot, at times we have dark and depressing moments such as Illumi forcing Killua to become an assasin and puttng him against Gon and then we have some light hearted moments such as Gon and Killua playfully arguing. However it's usually balanced by having characters such as Hisoka, who play an unpredictable factor in the story and Retz who manages

The structure of the movie is very similar to a condensened version of Yorknew, where the main characters research and find out about the villain's hideout, with Gon, Killua and Leorio finding out about both the Phantom Troupe and Omokage.

And then later, we see them fight and until the end where Kurapika loses himself but is brought back by Leorio. So I found that quite interesting as well.

Art: 7

It's quite similar to the original series but in my opinion, it doesn't balance out the art and sometimes it looks to bright and pastel-like and is slightly unbalanced. The animation is pretty good and the visual designs are almost the same as the original.

Sound: 8

The same as Hxh. Pretty much masterpieces.

Character: 8

The major characters who go through a lot of development are Killua and Kurapika, Killua because he refuses the pressure on him to betray Gon and still remains his friend, which foreshadows what he does in the Chimera Ant Arc later by removing the needle Illumi put on him.

Kurapika develops at the end by accepting the fact that his Kurta clan has died and embracing his new friends with Leorio reminding him about this, just like how Loerio saved Kurapika at the end of Yorknew Arc.

Enjoyment: 8

I enjoyed it a lot, it did have some moments where it was slightly boring and uninteresting but usually it was engaging enough to make me watch the whole film.

Problems:

It had some plotholes for me such as Omokage deflecting Kurapika's chain when he shouldn't have been able to and how chain jail was used on Omokage even though he wasn't a Phantom Troupe member.
