Both are shows set in WWII detailing the consequences of nuclear weapons and of war in general. Despite the setting, both shows balances melancholic and upbeat moment masterfully and creates a poignant picture of life during war. ReLIFE

These shows take place in a school setting but are grossly different from the typical slice of life shows that are set in a school in terms of the theme of the story. The usual school-set shows are usually light hearted in nature and typically revolve around the romance or the mischiefs of the main cast but in these two shows present scenarios that break away from the usual – most notable would be the absence of a beach episode and the focus on the characterization of the cast instead of just showing their day-to-day shenanigans.

Both shows deal with historical and mature themes and are similar in exposition. They both introduce an enigmatic character whose character and past are gradually uncovered as the plot unfolds. Both are not presented in the conventional linear manner which makes both shows distinct and interesting. In both shows, the main characters are involved in a particular activity which is an essential element to the story and provides and great setting – in Rakugo Shinju, it’s rakugo while in Saraiya Gouyou, it is kidnap for ransom. The characters on both shows are refreshingly real as they break away from the common character mold. If you are looking for something different, I recommend both.

Well, to state the obvious, both shows involve witches. These are supernatural-themed animes with plenty of comedic reliefs produced by the same studio – JC Staff. Story-wise though, the shows are quite different. In WCW, the focus is on the fight between the good and bad witches over the possession of the male MC’s power. Whereas in Flying Witch, the focus is on the life of the female MC who moves out of home to the country to become independent by witches’ standards.

Tears will definitely flow if you watch these anime, so if you are in the mood for drama check out any of the two. Ef and the Clannad franchise have great characters burdened with plenty of emotional baggage and they are the meat of the story. The characters will confront their burdens and as a result will grow but the path will not always be sunny. If one of the shows relentlessly stabbed your heart as you watched expect the other to do the same.

Both anime are about displaced aristocrats who are trying to achieve something for their respective kingdoms. Notable differences are on the setting and on the handling of the story. Arslan Senki is set on a Middle East-ish landscape and is more focused on showing how the main characters are going to reclaim their kingdom. The series is serious most of the time with more concentration on the politics and on the execution of war strategies. Akatsuki no Yona, on the other hand, takes place on a location similar to China. It is a lighthearted tale that focuses more on the individual stories of the main leads. Also, Akatsuki no Yona has plenty of fantasy elements compared to Arslan no Senki. Both series has a great exposition of their settings and has protagonists who grow through the series. You will be rooting for them because they make an effort to prove themselves. These anime, also, have good animation and attractive character designs that will lure you to watch. Lastly, both anime are enjoyable to watch, I hope you enjoy them as well 
