This manga is so wrong. I can't believe that people are okay reading it. I've tried my best not to give spoilers, but it's impossible for me not to give some parts of the plot away.
The age gaps really rub me the wrong way. With both pairings. This wouldn't have been a problem..... if there weren't adults dating minors.
At the beginning of the manga, one of these minors was literally in 5th grade and most likely 10 years old. Back then, he was already infatuated with this guy who was in his third year of high school and most likely 16 years old. It's been
...
confirmed that the age gap between these two is 6 years. That is just not okay. When their relationship develops, they decide to abstain from sexual activities until the younger one enters high school. At first, this sounds great! The writer is aware of how serious this age gap is after all! ...and then you realize that when he enters high school he's probably 14 years old and the other guy is 20. Uhhhmm...
The writer seems to be excusing the age by making the younger guy crazy tall by the age of 13, by having him act more mature and by having him take the initiative in the relationship. Like wow. That toootally makes everything okay. ...Not. I get that the age of sexual consent of some places in Japan is 13, but if something's legal in one place, it doesn't automatically mean that it's okay morally. The average 13-year-old boy has barely hit puberty, is mentally way less developed than the average adult and still has loads to learn about the world.
There are more things in this manga I found questionable. I haven't even talked about the other pairing yet, but I'll leave my review at this. It's just way too much for me to get past, and if you have a conscience, it would be too much for you, too. I get that this manga, despite its "sad" beginning, is supposed to be lighthearted and fun to read, with not too much focus on the setting and more on the romance. However, I don't think that makes what has been written okay and I wouldn't want any 14-year-old to read it and to think that having a sexual relationship with a 20-year-old is okay.
