On a rainy day, when Mai got stood up by the guy she likes she met a beautiful girl who told her that she was the Rain and that she had come because of her tears. After that Mai's days were filled with the bitterness of betrayal, only the memory of the girl called Rain can somehow ease her heart. A story of a brief love affair under the rainy season.
First of all, this review may contain spoilers (as this is a One Shot it's quite difficult not to spoil anything), so please read at your own risk. That is all.
Wow, this was probably the shortest One Shot I've read up till now. But, even this small amount of content (16 pages) was very intriguing. I definitely like the use of the element "rain" in this manga, because it symbolizes Mai's hardships, sadness and loneliness. Also, for those who don't completely understand the plot. It's basically just another symbolization of the development of Mai's feelings. When Mai decides not to cry anymore, Rain disappears. That's how I see it.
The last sentence: "Even if I shed my tears... the rain already disappeared, without waiting for me to call it." It tells us that Rain won't come back, ever... even if Mai will cry again (which she indeed does at the end). Probably because Rain wants Mai to be strong and to stay strong. I have a feeling that she is actually Mai's other self, the her that is tough and which doesn't cry. I think this is somewhat proven when Rain says "I... I don't want to see you crying."
This One Shot is wonderful. If you realise just how much this manga covers in its limited run, I'm sure you'll definitely enjoy it. Hashiba Hayase (羽柴 速瀬) did a great job capturing the emotions of this manga's storyline. To separate Mai's development stages, she used a part in color and one in plain black and white. The colored part symbolizes Mai's sadness, when she keeps crying. The black and white part symbolizes Mai's strenght, when she overcomes that sadness and decides to stop crying.
Definitely a 9/10 for me! Not a perfect score, because I feel like the sex scene was a bit unnecessary...
Anyway, these are some of my thoughts about this One Shot (though, they're almost longer than the manga itself :p) and I hope they'll clear up any confusion this manga will have caused you. If you want to talk to me about it further or about something I haven't yet covered in here, well, just drop me a message and I'll reply as soon as I possibly can.
And then last of all, for those that are going to read this jewel, enjoy it to the fullest.
I really enjoyed this manga, id read this manga before joining MAL and then i remembered it, eventually found it (after about an hour of searching) and re-read it.
Well one shots usually dont have deep story lines and this ones not an exception but it gets out what its goin for and it does a good job, after reading you can pretty easily understand everything without having to go back and read it again.
The art was drawn pretty good although there were some parts that they could have made look a little better but the manga was good overall.
The Characters obviously arent that deep due to this being a one shot but they are still likable and you feel for the characters while the manga lasts and a little after.
As i said at the beginning, i really liked this manga, the story was interesting, it had a great fanservice section and i felt sad when i was done with it (both times).
I would recommend this to anybody that likes yuri, ecchi and quick to read manga :)read more
What can I say about one shots? Well, there short. There isn’t much to talk about really with them because of this. This story is actually rather cute because it doesn’t actually circle around the sex aspect. It’s about a little girl that just wants to be loved and she finds love with the rain or at least a girl who says she’s the rain. The stupid part of the manga though is the ending and this may be considered a spoiler but I have to say it because it’s so short. Why the hell does Rain leave at the end? It makes things much harder for Mai because she had sex with her right before she suddenly went away!
The artwork is rather pretty and the first half actually has color, which doesn’t normally happen. It’s a pretty watercolor style and then goes to the normal black and white with sepia tones once the sexual part starts. Not sure why the author did that, but it has a lot more attention then other one shots that I have seen because of the color.read more
