I decided since Onegai, Sensei didn't have any reviews, I'd throw in my two-cent. This manga is just a simple three chapters (Actually, a series of three different one-shots. The summary only describes the first one.); good for when you need to kill some time and you're in the mood for mindless, cliche shoujo. Hey, that isn't always a bad thing. I know I'm occasionally in the mood for an easy read... But sadly, this wasn't an easy read. More like torturous.
Story - 5 (averaged)
Sweet Tear is the Flavor of Love: 5
The whole time I was reading this, I kept thinking, "Man, haven't I read
...
this before?" Just about every shoujo cliche you can think of is in this manga. Student-teacher relationship? Yep, it's there. (Don't get me wrong, student-teacher manga is one of my guilty pleasures.) Forbidden love? Well, yeah, that goes right along with previous cliche. Pea-brained, emotional-roller coaster of a female lead? You betcha.
It's almost laughable how lame this story is.
Altaira's Love Letter: 4
This one actually got on my nerves. It's more of an issue with the characters than the story, so I'll save that for later. The story, however, was very... bland. Ho-hum. Boring. I just didn't feel like much effort was put into it. At the end of the chapter, I just kinda sat there like, "What?"
The Boy From the Sleeping Country: 7
This was the better of the three. It actually had a somewhat decent plot and was much lighter than the other two. It wasn't perfect, but I didn't feel like shooting myself afterwards, which is a huge improvement after the first two.
Art - 8
Mostly what kept me reading was the artwork. All the girls were drawn with big eyes, perfect hair, and cute clothing. For the most part, all three stories were visually appealing. Not as much effort was put into the guys, sadly. The eyes also looked a little sketchy at times, but I'm willing to look past that. I give it an 8 'cause I'm feeling generous.
Character - 2
Yeah, yeah, I know. I'm lumping all the characters from each story together. As a whole though, I think it's truly deserving of it's "Dreadful" rating. In the first story, the lead girl (Who's name I have not bothered to remember.) was manipulative and overly-emotional. It drove me nuts. In the second story, the main boy kept pulling this reverse-psychology/passive crap with everything he said and I just wanted to scream, "OMIGOSH, JUST SHUT UP."
In the third story, the characters were less annoying, but not tolerable enough to bring up my low rating.
Enjoyment - 4
I'm so exhausted from writing the rest of the review, I really have nothing left to say. I think everyone one can tell how I feel about this manga by now.
