The novel is not the basis of the anime. It's like an "alternative ending" that was written after the anime. So watch the anime before reading the book if you want to truly appreciate the different endings! The book focuses more on a personal ending for the main character compared to how the Movie shows an ending that was more about the café "Time of EVE" itself.
Story: Stories with androids that look like humans is common, but to me the first story like that is Time of EVE. Having an android in your possession that disappears sometimes. Suddenly taking an hour extra when shopping, for

example. And being curios enough to look into it. It's such a simple thing that sets of such a great change in this protagonists life. I can relate to this, I used to stalk my cat when she went outside, just to see where she was going. Good times.
Art: The illustrations are in the same style as the anime. But if you're a perfectionist you might notice some weird mouth shapes, or dislike the dark contrast. But I honestly think it's fitting for the atmosphere of the story.
Overall: No real complaints about the book. It's a perfect side story for the fans out there. Though since I had seen the movie before reading the novel. I'm afraid I can't give a "first impression" to this world and the characters in it. All I can say is....
This book (and movie) are both truly fu*king spectacular.
