Examples of "Still waters run deep". Even though the main characters' physique looks intimidating, they have a sensitive side to them that keeps them from becoming emotionless. Rather, they show that they don't want to be involved with crime forever, and that helping hands given should be replied to with even more goodness.

Famine, poor health conditions, early death; These historical manga (Western Europe/America, 1800s) show that our lives nowadays are luxurious compared to those times in the past. Follow the main characters trying to make something of their lives, fully living in the present.

Two manga adaptations of works made by French authors who have already passed on. Both are keeping the differences between their work and the original as small as possible. These are emotional rides to say the least, and both deserve more recognition.

While there are no apostles and monsters in Les Misérables, these two gritty manga still share multiple similarities. The main character has suffered lots due to his background in the past. He is stronger than the above average man, and has been a prisoner but was able to escape. There is a strong emphasis on the drama and tragedy. Along the way to redemption, they encounter people who can save them from losing themselves totally, and they open up again.

These seinens are set in the time in France leading up to and including the French Revolution and both deal with the subject of law, crime, and punishment being out of order due to the differences in the different classes of society with that society and those problems as the backdrop that these men are up against. Both are true seinens showing the injustice of the society. Innocent is more graphic as it deals with an executioner having to deal with his conscience for the things he has to do for his job, while Jean ValJean in Les Miserables is  read more
