The author Nagaru Tanigawa knows how "throw up" stuff brillanty.
Warning: [”Rainy Day” is a extra short story that belongs to the Haruhi Suzumiya's light novels , and then, it is HIGHLY RECOMMENDED first have read previous made chapters and/or watched the anime series to secure a proper reading and enjoyable as possible].
When Kyon was in middle school he didn't knew about the existence of an eccentric someone named Haruhi. In contrast, he had as good friend Sasaki, an extremely mature schoolgirl and, at the beginning, unwomanly. Although he didn't think they were very close both attended the same class, cram school and talked
with each other often. And she is who do the wisest observations such as when talk about school life... or even musical taste. Also, realizing the Kyon's lack of interest for studies Sasaki tries to help directing him.
As usual Kyon is the main character and narrator. His speech and thoughts tend to mix: it's a bold and simple writing style that creates fluidity and dynamism to the reader.
Sasaki is another main character and has a proper introduction. Afterwards to "Rainy Day" she will gain more importance. The other characters, Kunikida, Kyon's Sister and Okamoto are so faded that they decrease a little the cheer.
Not much to say about Noizi Itou's graphics: simple, clean and to feast your eyes.
Overall: It has no supernatural event, action and neither romance. So you simply get entertainment from Kyon's sarcastic vision full of doom and dismay and through Sasaki's lifestyle. Something really more from everyday.
Although not outstanding Rainy Day provides a pleasant reading and it is a almost must read side story for those who like the Haruhi Suzumiya series. So why not give it a try?
To amuse you just allow yourself.
