After being dumped, followed closely by her grandmother's sudden death, the chubby Yuri is left broke and homeless. That is until she discovers that her grandmother had been lying to her for years. Her mother is not dead, but is in fact a famous movie star, and very much alive.
Upon arriving at her mother's house, she meets her three new beautiful siblings, all from different fathers. Her newfound family is filled with hilarious oddities, ranging from laziness to drunkennes to gay incest. She is constantly antagonized by her brothers Sumire and Aoi. And her sister Fuyou does little to help. And thus Yuri becomes little more than a maid in the household, catering to her siblings needs while her mother travels the world. But as Yuri's warmth fills the house which before had been so cold...what will happen between her and her brothers? Can they come to see each other as siblings before it's too late?
Bara no tameni has standard plot, standard art, but extraordinary characters.
The story is simple, you can find it a LOT. But i bet you will never find any manga that more enjoyable for this genre. I can not tell you how much i love and enjoy this manga.
Even though the story is simple, but the characters have their own charm. You will unable to hate every character in this manga. If you just want to feel positive, cheerful, and not stressed out because of antagonist character, i believe you need this manga.
Hey, don't get me wrong, these characters not a saint, not pure hearted
person, instead there are lot of flaws in each character. They have different personalities but none of them makes me feel uncomfortable and stressed out.
Yes the story is simple, but seriously it is not cheesy like typical shoujo romance. This manga jokes sometimes give me a hard laugh. And most of them makes me giggling and smiling all the time.
To conclude all, i will say this manga is light without being cheesy, enjoyable, attractive, and recommended to everyone who is sick of cheesy shoujo romance.
I really love this manga. I think the story is very interesting and the characters are very realistic and have depth. The main character, Yuri, is very sweet and lovable. I can really relate to her problems like feeling self conscious, etc. I think most women can! There is a good balance between tragedy and comedy and it's also got some mystery.
The art is very pretty but at times it seems a little bit rushed (understandable though because it's so detailed!). But otherwise, it's absolutely perfect! In my opinion, anyway. ^_~
If you enjoy romance, comedy, drama, Shoujou, or Josei, this manga will probably
appeal to you. Also, if you like the manga, there is a live-action Taiwanese TV series based on it called The Rose. You can see clips of it on Youtube.
I thought: that's the typical shoujo: ugly girl, beautiful boys, lots of cliche, etc. But I was kinda (just kinda) wrong.
Ok I'd say that I like this manga, I'm currently reading it. Ok, ugly, fatty and idiot girl, dumped by his boyfriend, alone in the world, somehow has now three beautiful brothers (2 brothers and a sister)... cliché.
And I thought: ok... next chapter she's the most beautiful girl in the manga. But I was wrong and that pleased me. She's "building" her beauty, not just with her body, but with her personality. Even now, that I'm almost finishing reading, she's not omg so beautiful.
She continues fatty, shorty, but she's growned kindness and she's more mature now. I like that reality in the story. And I've started liking the other character too.
The art is good, I would say the classic art for shoujo (little details, just can drawn good looking man etc)
BUT, now I'm talking about the bad things. The manga HAS a lot of cliché. The love triangle, the "I don't know if I'm gay" thing (girls love this, I don't know why), and other things. Don't expect the best story that has something very surprising in the end. It's just normal life.
Ok, after saying all this... I'm giving an 8 (very good) to this manga. As a shoujo, is a very good one, not just "We love each other but our love is impossible bla bla" thing. If you're a shoujo fan, read it!
I can't remember why I picked up this manga. The story line didn't leap out at me. I mean, how many stories are there about a girl who falls for her brother/step brother/relative. Many! However, the fact that is wasn't a high school romance appealed (not that I dislike HS romances, that is far from the truth, but sometimes the josei themed mangas appeal).
But Bara No Tame Ni is something special. I think it is the realness of the characters - from the cranky, rude, dismissive step family, to the abject selfishness of the mother, to the gentleness of Yuki. Despite how their weaknesses, I
really felt for each and every character. Well most of them, but I am only half way through, so redemption may be on hand for the rest.
As with any great story, it is the characters that make or break it. And in Bare No Tame Ni, the depth of the characters helps make a beautiful story. I have really enjoyed watching the household change. All the brothers and sisters, including our protagonist. And it is more than a romance, and the story of a gentle soul - it is *funny*. There have been numerous moments I have been glad I have been reading this, as I start to laugh out loud.
Overall, I recommend this for people that like romantic comedy. I am really looking forward to the rest being translated!
