I think many people on MAL will at some point find a story they really like but still has no reviews. This is the first time this happened to me. I also think that the current score of 7.33 is too low, but, of course, this is a matter of opinion.
I encourage everyone to read this short 2 volume manga to form your own opinion.
Story:
Tonari no Megane-kun is one of these light warm stories, which can captivate one without using dramatic cliffhangers. The situation described in the synopsis is already concluded in the first chapter (which can be read like a one-shot), so the other
...
chapters follow the activities of the couple.
The problems and situations they have to face are typical for shoujo mangas, but there is no unnecessary drama and most side characters root for the main couple.
A negative point here is that part of their childhood background is repeated multiple times, which is just a waste of pages.
Characters:
In my opinion, the characters are the strong point of this story. I liked Minami and Kuriko after the first few pages and they really fit together. Kuriko is a typical (but not exaggerated) tomboy while Minami is a handsome guy who has a weepy side but can also be strong and confident for Kuriko's sake.
The side characters (the best friends of the couple and the parents) are nice, but there isn't much development. The exception is Kuriko' younger brother, who gets his own side story.
Art:
I think the art is pretty good, but not outstanding. I really liked the design of the female heroine Kuriko. Kuriko's design and character form the backbone of the comedy in this manga and it worked very well for me.
