The stories are different but whenever I think about them they seem to blend together.both have good kid who get mixed up with the bad delinquent and they both don't get along at first but start to get closer as the story moves along. Both characters have troubled past but they both help each other over come it. Just read them. If you like one you will like the other

Both mangas have beautiful art and are set within a school which involves dormitories.

Both were created by Chigusa Kawai. Georges Saphir, the main character of La Esperanca, makes his apperance as a transfer student in the second volume of Alice the 101st.Overall La Esperanca is a great story, and the fact that the characters interact in Alice the 101st was a great surprise. Both deal with musical themes, though La Esperanca didn't concentrate solely on music.

Both are set in a boys school. The relationships of Takara x Kiyomine and Georges x Robert are similar in; Takara and Georges both are rejected from Kiyomine and Robert for features of their face. Takara and Georges are both naive and have their complexes. Takara is afraid to be a burden to people and hated for it. Georges is afraid for just 'not being liked'. Kiyomine and Robert are unlikable guys that change for the better when interacting with Takara and Georges. Komahoshi is comedy, La Esperança is drama.

Both have beautiful beautiful art. They deal with boys in someone strict (In Riya's case) schools. Both of them have to do with musicians and and injuries that hinder their musical ability, as well as going away to study for music. Happy endings, and abusive/mean fathers included in both.

A lot of BL manga was clearly influenced by the classics of the 70s, but La Esperança has been more obviously influenced than most. Like Heart of Thomas (and its spiritual siblings such as Kaze to Ki no Uta), it's set in a religious all-boys school and deals with the relationship between a cheery boy and a more negative one. The characters may not be the same, but the themes of hidden darkness, hope, and tragedy have a lot in common.
