Basic Information: "BoysLike" is an 8-page oneshot by Satomi Yamagata.
The actual review: For those of you who do not like same sex pairings or anything that even hints at them, don't run yet. Stick around until the review's finished.
Despite having a shounen ai tag, BoysLike is a story that has little, if any, 'boy love'. There are no love confessions. No mushy thoughts. If you're not looking for it, you'll simply see best friends having a conversation. Nothing more.
Want a story? Uh...sure. Just to inform you, there is only so much you can stuff into eight pages. Yet, the mangaka manages to fit some in.
Boy
...
A is having lunch with his best friend, Boy B. Boy A is complaining to his friend, telling him of how he tires of his girlfriends habits. The complaints and the dialogue seem extend beyond the pages that gives it a sense of realism many manga don't have. You can imagine yourself sitting at a table next to them, feeling guilty for 'easedropping' on their conversation.
Even with all the sevens I've given for story, art, and character (it's 8 pages. Need I say more?), that sense of realism makes the story that much more enjoyable. However, if you only look at the short length and how the friends' relationship fail to progress, you won't enjoy this story. You will read it and leave unsatisfied.
--All due respect to Satomi Yamagata. However, if you truely wish to have your characters be called anything other than 'Boy A' and 'Boy B', please name them. ^_^
