Phalene is a one-shot that is best to read without any sort of in-depth analyze beforehand. Not only because it consists of only 8 pages, but because the final page reveals the main idea of the entire story this short product brings. As short as it is, one can hardly expect an outstanding result, which is also the case here. However, I must compliment the fact that the manga did keep its own track, having its own style and not following the type of the majority. With multiple minor factors around going their own way, Phalene stands as a rightfully unique one-shot.
As far as the
story is concerned, it is not equally shared through the pages, which is one of the points that make it special, and as seen in the very end, direct. For over half of the length, we are presented to a female who is longing for a specific male. From there, things literally escalate quickly, as the male in question comes to the screen.
For some, the one-shot might seem tragic. For some, it might appear beautiful. Whatever the case, the story, as much as there is to it, holds a message, if the one reading is at it enough to realize it. The message is really easy to read, since it is something known from the everyday life. Combining it with the fact that everything has its limit, if nothing else, then time-wise, it sums the presentation up into a splendid overall whole.
The manga itself has quite a strong influence of the shoujo genre to it, which can be seen from the typical character art style, as well as the main character being a female longing for a male in a romantic release. Regardless of those factors, as a boy, I can assure that it can easily be enjoyed by the male audience as well. Keeping to the visual display, the font used is quite fancy and unique. It is one of the things that pops into the eye first, as it is really strong and can even steal the spotlight of attention from the characters. Even so, it is those few words where the power lies, making this sort of presentation pretty acceptable.
Whether Phalene will touch you or not, it is worth the read. From my point of view, it would have had a much greater effect on me if only spread through a few more chapters, with us learning a bit more about our lead. Still, the shortness is where the beauty lies. Moreover, the characters are of the type that can't be explained in-depth too much, but saying anything more than that would already give it away. The characters are simply set in a way that give the creator a wonderful reason why the release isn't any longer.
One of these summer nights, if you'll leave the window open and the lights on, a phalene might just come and visit you.
I' ve never written a review before, but when I saw that this masterpiece isn't really popular, I just couldn't ignore it. Actually, I can't say exactly what I admired the most, because the whole story is too short and the best thing about it is the one moment of suprise when you realise something(I can't tell you what). I know the summary isn't really attractive, but believe me, it it's not like in any typical romance.
Well, besides, you won't lose much time, because it only has 8 pages, and yet you will remember it for sure.
