I found "Iyagatteru Kimi ga Suki" quite... interesting, the other work by Oniyama Mizuki. This one seems to be tame and more easy on the psyche. Now, I had some hopes and it was good when it started. After having read chapter 11 and most probably dropping this I can say, being 100% certain, this is a clear 4/10 (Bad as per MAL rating).
I can not recommend this to anyone. The contents are not the reason. Whatever. It has the hugest plot hole of any work I have read in a while. A main character is ruined and straight up ruins the story by
...
mere oversight and inconsistency. Explained below.
We get the usual introduction to the world which was quick but enough to give us an idea of where this will go. Characters show up instantly and each one gets that indirect quick introduction highlighting their overall standing/state of mind as a human being. All is well until that point. I actually liked this type of info dumping. The manga is violent and gory and topics discussed go beyond normal adult at times. It pretty much follows the same formular as Iyagatteru Kimi ga Suki which isn't necessarily a bad thing if into that genre.
But this is where the manga fails horribly. The characters are really important in this one and just like in their other work the characters are mentally deranged with some deep psychological issues. They have this one big trait that controls what they want to do and a smaller one (e.g. ultra violent or yandere). Every major character works like that, no exception.
The female main character is the worst offender of not abiding by this law (not on purpose by the author, mistake) and it straight up ruined the manga. The biggest driving factor and the huge sub-story of the manga is only there due to her. We get a clear picture of her in the first 10 panels and is an established character- never felt love, never close to anyone, no familial life. It plays a massive, HUGELY MASSIVE part in the manga and is crucial to the "why?" it all happens... but that was all a lie, lol?
No, this was not intentional by the author. There was no happening to make her change or some reverse-uno bullshit where she had all her feelings hidden. She did not and nothing happened, there is nothing to spoil. Chapter 10+11 are contradictory to the whole story and her feelings, her behaviour for the past 10 chapters (and her whole time of being alive) and the way she acts is completely changed- again, for no reason. I want to not spoil anything in this review so I can only say that the plotline makes zero sense anymore and is instantly dead.
But the author acts like it all did not happen and as if she is still the same character as before and thus it all just moves forward.. without the reason to happen anymore. It is a legit mistake in writing. This is an oversight and no, it can not be explained either, ever. Not even some infinitely big off-screen asspull could make it make sense. These feelings ARE NOT HERS.
I swear to anyone reading: you will get it when reading up to chapters 10+11 (even if not recommended)
