Compared to omegaverse, dom/sub as second gender doesn't really have the same level of desperation and is quite flexible - in this manga, the partner during the play and the lover doesn't have to be identical, and the play doesn't necessarily have to be of a sexual nature - it is simply a way to relieve the desire of the second gender. This foundation makes it easily digestible and not too off-putting despite our own world not having such biological features.
That being said, this manga would work extremely well as a sex-ed comic strip due to its matter-of-fact reference to command, mutual (consent), safeword. And
...
if this were a sex-ed comic strip, then Kurashina and Isshiki would make great demonstrators as in the maturity and composure with which they present themselves. It also drives against the concept of teenage sexual activity being impulsive and sloppy as the norm - their school literally makes "second gender" an academic subject, allowing them to try out things step by step so the whole buildup before the deed was quite elegant and smooth, really.
Educational values aside, the art is absolutely alluring. Virtually every panel has this softness yet retains a crisp clarity in the silhouettes. This definitely makes this allegorical "How to have safe sex in high school: A step-by-step guide" more compelling and cool. The inferiority complex and projection that Kurashina has is quite relatable and realistic, and he isn't hesitant to admit it and overcome it to reap the sweet fruits of being self-assured in being one's authentic self.
(Unrelated rant but the school male nurse Aoi Hazumi who is in charge of second gender education who Kurashina is high-key jealous of due to his strong and firm dominance has such a charismatic character set-up that I wish there is a sequel focusing on him as the protagonist where he can showcase his "dominant skills" in their full glory haha - but ofc I suppose not with a student cuz that would ruin the vibe, maybe with another male teacher? someone outside the school? idk but it's just my pipe dream - tho there are manga with way weaker set of characters yet get a prequel and sequel, none of which bears any charm whatsoever!? In a world where I can get whatever I want, this manga will have a sequel as mentioned above.)
