Synopsis

Komazu, a sparrow, encounters a snake in the forest one day. He thinks he will be eaten, but to his surprise, Shirato, the white snake, saves him from a crisis. They slowly start to understand and approach each other.

However, Komazu accidentally sees those. Between Shirato's thighs, there were two of what a sparrow does not have!!! As interested as he was, he starts playing with the things between Shirato's thighs. But as they spend more and more time together, he feels the desire to mate with Shirato, and those feelings lead to an ending where they are once again reminded of the differences they have as different species...

This story is a classic forbidden romance - with a twist! The Snake Who Loved A Sparrow was a book I obtained through a mystery bag purchase at an anime convention recently, and the first one I decided to read. The detailed artwork was easily the strongest factor in the resulting score, while the story was quite unique. Some elements of the plot seemed a bit rushed or underdeveloped, however it still allows the reader a basic understanding of what's going on. Stunning artwork, but the story was severely lacking.

Interspecies love and forbidden love are two tropes that are prevalent in this story, and yet, the plot itself fell flat and didn't really go anywhere.

The story revolves around our two main characters: Komazu (a sparrow) and Shiratō (a white snake), who find themselves drawn to one another after a fateful meeting (Shiratō saving Komazu from a wild boar). It's a strong start, and given the two tropes used in this story, you'd expect the story to go in a direction where they have to overcome their differences in the pursuit of their love.
