Synopsis

At first glance, Amy appears to be a normal, young girl living with her father. However, she is actually a doll, built by her father to resemble the daughter he lost contact with decades ago. Even though he seems satisfied with his creation, the man still loves his real child dearly. As he takes his last breath one day, Amy sets out on a journey to find her father's beloved daughter in order to convey his true feelings.

Delivering a heartfelt (if a bit cliché) story in only 34 pages, Kataude no Amy is a quick read worth the read.

The story focuses on a living doll named Amy and her life with her father. The story is told in first-person from her perspective, so he received the vast majority of the character development, though several side characters received minor attention. I had hoped for a more detailed depiction of one certain character that appears near the end of the title, but given its short length, this can mostly be forgiven.

The art was cute and fairly standard, with the highlight being Amy's expressions. Overall, ...

Kataude no Amy is Akagi Shun's second release, with their first publically available project being Lyra to Mayonaka 3-ji no Daibouken that features a really simple yet cute and wholesome way of storytelling, and in which we can clearly see that way of writing being implemented into both of these oneshot, and while not being as good as the first one in my opinion, Kataude no Amy is still a nice and short read with wholesome and cute moments here and there, and it's a really emotional ride into the acceptance of self.

The story itself is a really emotional ride, with each page flip being ...

A 35-page cliché and predictable plot, but well executed. Amy addresses themes of loneliness and an act of kindness - very subtle, yet profound.

Amy, as a character, is very cute. But there’s a quiet bravery in her that makes her instantly likable.

Her childlike traits carried unexpected emotional weight. Although not all characters were explored, I believe the story fell short of its full potential.

The one-shot is straightforward—no twists, no punchline. The ending is predictable. Yet sometimes, predictable stories can leave you feeling satisfied.

Give it a read. It’s nothing extraordinary, but a decent 35-page story that feels fulfilling.
