The setup is one I'm a fan of! The female lead is great, as are most of the characters. There are, however, two things that are really dragging this down so far.
First, MC is so invested in getting with Hanano, but so fickle when it comes to doing anything that might make her more inclined to take him in. Realize that you're too weak to do a princess carry that you know she likes? MC gives up entirely after 10 seconds of effort. MC refuses to put any effort in at school, or even any other aspect that would make him a reliable potential

partner. His love interest even cites that as a reason why she's holding off on getting together with him, and it's still zero motivation for him to better himself in any conceivable way. Hopefully this is something that can change even a bit going forward.
Second, what is going on with the daughter character. Karin is a good character and the interactions between her and the other cast is great in general. It's fine for her to develop a crush on Yoshio while also trying to support love blooming between him and her mom. But is there a need for anything ecchi or fanservice adjacent regarding her? Or for MC to even consider the possibility of anything happening with her, even for a moment? Maybe that's a culture difference but it just ruins it.
