From my perspective, Velius - who couldn't get involved with humans beyond what his job as a shinigami allowed - longed for someone who would make him feel loved, so he could finally end his life cycle after having experienced this feeling (the punishment for a Grim Reaper getting involved with a human is death). This feeling was found when he met Ende, a young boy who had been abandoned and whom he adopted; and from this point on, the story is formed.
The relationship between the two can be interpreted in two ways:
1. Velius, not knowing exactly what a family means, doesn't know how to
...
behave or interpret his own feelings towards Ende.
2. Velius loves Ende in the romantic way (which would be complicated, since Ende is a child and his adopted son).
I prefer to interpret it the first way and honestly, if I hadn't seen the "boys love" tag, I wouldn't even have thought of the second option while reading. But if you're someone who prefers healthy family relationships, please stay away from this manga...
Overall, it's a 59-page one-shot, with beautiful artwork and a story that's easy to understand and can be interpreted in more than one way depending on the reader. I'd give it a higher rating if it weren't for the father-son relationship that wasn't very well interpreted and left a lot open / implied several things.
