These are historical romances that have strong willed and talented girls in ancient China who do not like to follow what is expected of their gender and want to do and think for themselves. Both have good looking men with long hair in a period style and period costuming in the art.  

They both begin with a marriage without love that evolves into something more. 

Set in historic China with noble families that are close to the emperor, both are historical romances, and both show how different it was for women in those times. Some of the names and family situations seem similar too.  

They are set in ancient China and both have strong female leads who are paired with men from noble families closely tied to the Emperor. The female leads often participate in the battles and their fathers want to find them husbands. Both are historical romances. 

Historical romances in China, these both deal with strong women and rather cold men from complicated family situations, the art in both gives a similar feel and sets the historic romance tone.  

I was struck by the similarities as both female characters are entirely independent. Both rooted in historic culture.
