TL;DR: I think for younger audiences or those not seeking something mature, this webtoon is a great read in the action/fantasy genre of webtoons. The story & characters are simple, but it's not overly reliant on cliches. It also doesn't reuse popular concepts like magical towers, reincarnation or video gamefication of the world. I like how easily it manages to make situations feel emotional without feeling over the top, and how the side characters don't feel like throwaways or lack likable personalities like many other stories.
Extended story synopsis:
Airen Farrera is a young nobleman who has been bedridden since the death of his mother, earning him
...
the title 'Lazy Lord' among the people. One night he sees a dream in his sleep. He dreams of a village where a stranger had just moved into. This stranger would begin practicing swinging a sword instantly upon moving in. At first nobody gave it a thought, but soon the rumors began to spread of his determination. The stranger has never taken a break from training. He has been swinging his sword from morning until night for half a year now. His swordsmanship was crude, unrefined and unimpressive, but he kept repeating basic swings. After 37 years the man is found dead by the villagers, still grasping the sword firmly. When the young lord wakes up from his dream, his body is aching for action and he is unable to sit still, so he begins swinging a sword obsessively. This is a new start for the young lord, as he gains the attention of a wandering swordsman who recommends him to an esteemed academy for swordsmen.
Story (7 / 10):
As long as you don't expect a mature story, I doubt you will find anything to complain about. The first season is about our main character Airen getting back up on his feet after spending 15 years of his life doing nothing. It revolves around the academy where he learns swordsmanship, as well as him, his friends and his family. The second season is about Aiden traveling around the continent to figure out what his swordsmanship is still lacking.
Although the story overall is a decent package, there are some bad and worrisome things about the story. In the first season for the later half of it, the webtoon tried to halfheartedly use unscrupulous noblemen as villains, like many novels & webtoons do. It was a cheap & cliched tactic to try make the reader invested, but it completely failed since the execution wasn't as good as it could've been. I also hope that his family will still have a more central role moving on, otherwise they will begin to feel like another throwaway backstory for the main character, since we didn't really learn much about them or how the noble families are structured. The first season was too eager to get Airen away from them. There is also a concern of how well the webtoon will be able to handle darker subjects as the story progresses, and I hope we eventually get a broader view at the lore of this world since it hasn't been touched upon.
Characters (7 / 10):
All the important characters have fairly simple personalities, but none of them feel flat. They are given distinct traits that aren't over the top, and their characters have some depth & imperfections. The relationships and dialogue between the main characters is also enjoyable, although their conversations don't have the depth some people might want, since it's mostly bickering and pushing eachother forward. It's also rare to read a story where the main character doesn't feel like the center of the world when speaking of novels or webtoons. Here they all have some room to shine. The webtoon also has managed to make some moments between characters convey sad, bittersweet or happy emotions without being over the top.
Outside the main characters I wasn't too impressed, especially regarding Airen's family & the noble family antagonizing them. We don't really learn anything about his parents or sister. About the people serving their family or their place in the world. It all feels too flat, and it's probably due to the story rushing to get Airen away from them.
Art (7 / 10):
Cartoony & simple, on par with what you'd expect from most of the higher quality webtoons. There's room for improvement in just about every department regarding pure visual quality or how panels are drawn, but nothing about the art ever bothered me.
Enjoyment (8/10):
I weigh my personal enjoyment over the other factors. I've greatly enjoyed the consistency of the character and story quality. The action, character development and story have a good balance.
