Synopsis

Isaku never asked to be the daughter of a yakuza boss, but when her parents died in a car accident when she was 5, her gangster grandfather took her in and raised her as part of the clan. After years of being avoided by her schoolmates because of her family ties, Isaku is finally ready to make her high-school debut, live a normal life, and maybe even find love...until loyal family servant and Isaku's dedicated guardian, 26-year-old Keiya, enters high school right alongside her and vows to protect her from all of the above! Now she's got a chain-smoking, pistol-wielding knight-in-shining(?)-armor to deal with, and navigating high school besides? What's a young lady to do?!

So basically I found out that this manga is going to become an anime in the Fall 2023 season on Myanimelist and had to check it out because my god, that cover has me sold! While reading through it, I was literally in awe with the art especially with the characters faces close up like my god, it felt like I was reading a professional artists artwork portfolio! Now I will say, the FL is rather young enough for ML who is 26 years old. Don’t get me wrong, I’ve read quite a good amount of age gap relationship manga but it just won’t work ...

Oh boy. I thought I would enjoy this a lot more. The premise was so up my alley; age gap, he's her bodyguard and a gangster... What could possibly go wrong, right? Well, it's more or less your regular high school shoujo. Like he's older, but you'd never guess because not only he goes to school with her, but he's involved in the school stuff too, and also acts like a high school boy.

Okay I wanted to read this because it's getting an anime adaptation ?? Which honestly surprises me based on how bad this story is. I wasn't super keen on the whole 15 & 25 age gap (it also shows when she was really little and he helped care for her...egh). I gave it a chance simply because an anime is being made for it.

From the get go it rubbed me the wrong way. Red flag behavior from ML all around. He's NOT likeable...it's like a rendition of a 13 yr olds journal she keeps hidden under her bed. ML IS supposed to be yakuza...but still. ...
