Episode 1

And here we get the life of an aspiring mangaka in Futami-sensei, who has quite a lot to learn. But she's surrounded by great people like her editor Sato and assistant Hazama. Well, she's quite delusional about a lot of things, but it's stuff that helps her along in drawing her shojo manga that she wants to put out. Sato sure does work her hard, and Futami freaking out is pretty funny.

Hmm, I think they kind of need to find a better translation than "boss lady" for "nee-san". In a work environment, it just makes it sound like the woman calling her that reports to her. I assume the implication in this instance is more supposed to be that "nee-san" is more like what she would call a senior member of a gang.

Sato seems to be a boke/tsukkomi hybrid.

Well, it's no New Game!! but I find aspects of it relatable. Ha-chan's the best part, though.

God, I do NOT miss the days of working almost 36 hours straight, turning something in at 2AM and the boss getting notes back to me at 4AM.

"Working as a mangaka isn't horrible people I swear! So don't give up and keep dreaming of being a mangaka"
It's kinda hilarious at how far from the truth these shows about manga writers and animation studios is.
Shirobako was honest to a very small point.
I can't wait for a show to come out about a broken old man who spent his entire life writing manga and frequently falls into pits of depression resulting in writers block while his publisher knocks on his door every few hours asking if he's made any progress and gets frequent hate mail and death threats for not making the perfect waifu or whatever thing sets off otaku these days.

Or do we already have one of those shows?

Is about an Idol and her Doctor with reincarnation.
And I haven't watched it yet because I hate Idol shows.

I'm talking about a gritty realistic Mangaka/Animation Studio show.
Because of all the shows I've watched about those two subjects, reality isn't as flowery as they make it seem.
But there's also the case where the world doesn't really need more depression than it already has.
But I do like some honesty here and there, and I know not every show needs a happy ending.

It's not an idol show. It has idols in it, but it's about the dark underbelly of various parts of the entertainment world. Crazed fans, social media driving people to suicide, casting couches, blackmail, murder

But that wasn't the point of my original post.
It was a show specifically about the realism of being a Mangaka/Anime Studio rather than the flowery stuff we have.
Not about showbiz, but about those specific markets that anime tends to gloss over as being sunshine and rainbows.

The stuff I hear about mangaka getting harassed or animation studios getting flak never makes it into anime.

I'd say anime generally glosses over the idol industry and sunshine and rainbows more than the manga/anime industry.

There are plenty of anime out there where mangaka barely get any sleep and are deathly afraid of their editors. Most of it is played off for laughs of course.
