| And to begin this show, it's an episode zero that explains everything that happens in what is the near-future as of today to set up the events of the far future when the main story takes place. Episode 0 Akira starts his day just like a typical student as his parents were killed in an accident ten years ago and he was taken in to live with his uncle Kazuya and cousin Towasa, who he calls Big Sis. Akira and Towasa has developed a close relationship, while Towasa his a renowned genius in the field of robotic. But everything changes when come when she's ordered to end her research under pressure by the church. Akira and Towasa become quite close to each other as they really enjoy each other's company. But then comes the fateful moment during a shareholder meeting taking place during a time when tensions were high and there was so much backlash against androids, and one such critic interrupts the presentation and shoots Towasa with Akira taking the worst of it trying to protect her. And then Akira is put into cold sleep in order to survive, but would wake up many decades into the future when civilization is in ruins. This goes to show that just how destructive mankind can be when they can't agree on something, and those bullets sparked the flames of war. Quite an interesting start there, and seeing that this is an original project from P.A. Works that while it's going to look great, there are definitely going to be some pitfalls that could throw things off track. Nevertheless, I'm intrigued to see where this goes. |
| Someone trying to attack Towa was pretty much telegraphed from the beginning of the episode. I expected her to be the one killed though, not Akira. I wonder if using the name Akira is a purposeful homage to the movie. This story is more in line with what I expect from PA Works, I just hope it has a good story all the way to the end, like "Aquatope on White Sand" or "Irodoku: The World in Colors" and doesn't fumble the ending like "The Day I Became a God" Not a fan of their noses in this either also, kind of stupid that MAL breaks episode 0 away from the rest of the show...it's not a stand alone episode, kind of stupid to even call it episode 0 |
