Kunieda Koudai is strongly hinted to be from the future, just like Kaoru, since candy apples didn't exist back then, yet he is familiar with them. He also mentions that the Fox's Mirror (which also has ties to the clairvoyant demon woman from ep 1) has already been used once. But unlike Kaoru, Koudai stayed there and married Chiyo, who was also revealed to be none other than Chitose, the dango girl from Kadono. Chitose fulfills her promise to make Jina isobe mochi once again, what an amazing series this is.

Also the last shot of the episode was inspired by book 5's cover art, which depicts Jinya and Kaoru walking along the stands in the exact same angle.

I really hope Kijin Gentoushou gets a second season, cuz we've just arrived to the part of the series

Thank you for following these explanations, and feel free to ask any questions

Hi, thank you for you constant explanations. Just one thing: at the end of the Okada episode we can see an exchange between jinya and kaoru saying that they knew each other for 100 years; can I assume that that scene is chronologically after the events of the festival?
Second possibility: in episode 23 it is hinted that kaoru was aware of the existence of demons and all those mystical things, so my theory is that she was saved at some point by jinya from a demon attack; is it possible jinya brought up the events of the past to her without mentionig anything crucial?
I think (and hope especially) one of these two "theories" is right. Would you tell me if it's true or correct me if i'm wrong?
Thank you in advance.

I think the first one is spot on
I'm only at book 9 (soon 10), and I presume the meeting between Jinya and Kaoru occurs in the first book of the Heisei arc (book 12), so I don't know the circumstances, but it's very likely that Kaoru was attacked by a demon. Perhaps it might have been briefly mentioned in some description during one of the time jumps that he saved her from a demon, but I have already forgotten about it, idk. Looking at it from a rational point, I can't think of another situation where Jinya could have boasted his demonic powers in front of her, so you might be right on both

Can someone pls explain to me who that one demon girl who looked like Shiroyuki's mother (previous Itsukihime) was? Iirc, she first appeared with that guy who drew some alleged cursed picture that turned out to have been not really cursed at all. Then I think she appeared with that one swordsmith guy who put her blood into his swords.

Yes. In the novel it was mentioned that the exchange between Jinya and Okada happened in September 2009, so few weeks after the summer festival.

@LeonardoKuma I was going to ask the same question. Thank you!

Thanks for all the extra information and informative threads, guys! @Szabesz @KiyoS

I hope the anime gets a sequel. For me, the story is really, really good and deserved a better adaptation. Although I also think the entire adaptation team did their best.

I loved the opening episode and both openings and their respective songs.

Anyway, I think I'll end up buying the light novel.

Yeah I also think they poured a lot of effort into this, it didn't become a slideshow despite the limited resources
