Why so few episodes?

as far as my understanding goes it serves as a prequel to the normal kakegurui storyline, so it isn't too long as it then goes into the main story (even tho I don't see that transition too clearly if I'm being honest, like where did mary's friends go once yumeko gets to the school?)

It's not a prequel really but a spin-off, a side story

well the manga for kakegurui twin is still going so I guess we will have that answer. I just don't understand the reason for the anime stopping where it did.

for me it is indeed a prequel because Yumeko didn't transfer there yet

This is a prequel Spin-off and also ongoing. However, the main series has 16 manga volumes and started in 2014 while this one has 12 manga volumes and started in 2015. So in a sense it's almost the same length as the main series so it definitely couldn't be done in even 24 episodes.

I guess 12 ep is too much for Mappa right now with so many upcoming project,or maybe netflix only order 6 episode so they cant make more,even though we all know how is end with the overthrone the council president plan it still so breathtaking ,entertain and unpredictable.I love kakegurui and mari is my most favourite character when i heard about this anime i was jumping in joy now is just painful when i finished it.as for the sauce material it plenty enough to make 2 seasson.

Question: wiill Twin end with the same circumstances and conditions where the main story starts or is it more like a "another universe/timeline" type of thing, meaning that some characters or circumstances did not exist in the time before the main story starts, when only looking at the main story?

I haven't seen any mention to circumstances / characters from Twin in the main story, but I am also not at the newest chapter.

Not gonna spoil much, it's not another timeline but there's no mention of Yumeko in this.
