I think it would be neat to have an ongoing 3x3 thread, so we can show our favorite shows/series! It's fun to find people who have similar taste, especially since you can exchange recommendations if you have common interests :)

Mostly newer anime, but I tried doing a 3x3 using art from Danbooru. Would be interesting to see how easily identifiable some of these are, as they're relatively obscure.

- | I really wanted to like it, but something about Houseki no Kuni didn't click with me-- I felt a little underwhelmed, to be honest. The premise is really unique and it has such beautiful visuals, but I felt like the narrative direction was a little weird. What did you like most about it? I really want to come to enjoy it more, since I hear it gets really good.

? | Other than that, your taste seems cool! I'll admit Gundam isn't my thing, but for what it's worth, I like mech shows here and there.

Big fan of your whole top row! I watched A Place Further Than the Universe and it was pretty sweet, but I don't really recognize the rest (besides Yuri on Ice). What are the four in the bottom right corner?

+ | I love Madoka Magica, too! Made in Abyss is another show I consider myself a fan of. FMA:B was definitely one of my favorites growing up, what a classic.

- | A Place Further Than the Universe is pretty sweet but for some reason I found myself underwhelmed? Also, I watched the first season of One Punch Man, but I really don't think it was for me. I can see why people enjoy it so much, though.

? | I've never heard of Princess Principal before, maybe I should check it out! On what basis would you recommend it?
Also I've had Baccano! recommended to me before, what did you like about it? It seems interesting.

+ | Kobayashi-san's Dragon Maid was my entrance to SoL, will forever hold a place in my heart. Tatami Galaxy was quite a fun ride, although I wish I had watched it a little earlier in my life!
also Kyousougiga was super sweet, I absolutely adore both こと and コト

- | Wasn't really a fan of Mob Psycho 100 (although I definitely understand it's underlying premise and understand the appeal) and while it was fun, I didn't think too much of Di Gi Charat, although it definitely felt like it was ahead of its time!

? | I will hopefully get around to Kaiba someday!

+ | While I found the show to be a little messy, I loved the characters in SSSS.Gridman. Akane and Rikka were so memorable and charming. Also I just recently watched Girl's Last Tour and it was really incredible, definitely a gem-- I hope it gets another season!

? | Another Baccano! post! I really should check this show out.
I actually just had Haibane Renmei recommended to me, definitely something I want to get to.

Update: Katanagatari ended up being literally one of my favorite shows to date

- | I just finished Oregairu, actually-- I can see why people love it but it just didn't click for me as much, I guess. I did really appreciate the conclusion though!
Konosuba was a really fun show for me back when I first watched it years ago but I think it's aged poorly for me...
I started Gurren Lagann as a young teenager, but for some reason I never got past the halfway mark... I tried it again a few years ago and got stuck there again. I'm really not sure why, to be honest.

Nonetheless, good chart! Thanks for sharing :D

Nanoha A's top-left. A classic, weird blend of sci-fi and magical girl. The 1st season is kind of unfocused and mediocre, but the 2nd season is incredible. It's also just an incredibly influential anime, both on the magical genre and the medium as a whole, so it's cool to see where the influences originated from.

Mawaru Penguindrum top-right, probably one of my favorites. Its an anime that honestly defies explanation. Would highly recommend you at least check out the 1st episode, see if its you're type of thing.

Sora no Woto middle-right, very along the lines of Girl's Last Tour and Haibane Renmei of like melancholic slice of life, this time with a military post post-apocalyptic vibe.

Bottom right is Go Princess Precure, but more just Precure in general, though I'm still working through the seasons myself. Idk man, if you like magical girls, cool fight scenes, and honestly some surprisingly solid character development and plot beats, I'd recommend a bunch of the the seasons if you can handle the long episode count.

It's a well-done spy thriller that's set in a steampunk version of early 20th-century England. The cast plays well off each other and there's some nice emotional beats. Note that some of the episodes are out of chronological order.

Baccano! is an amazing achievement in writing and pacing. Despite having a giant cast of characters, switching between multiple intertwining plotlines, and being told out of chronological order, it manages to fit everything within 13 episodes (16 if you watch the OVAs) while telling a compelling story that doesn't feel cramped or rushed. It might be confusing in the beginning, but once all the puzzle pieces fall into place, it's very satisfying. Definitely a fun ride.

It also takes place in the same universe as Durarara!, if you're a fan of that series.

The first season of Nanoha starts out pretty average and only picks up halfway through.

If you don't want to go through the first season of Nanoha, you can watch the first Nanoha movie instead, which tells basically the same story (with much better fight scenes). Though, there isn't that much focus on Nanoha herself compared to the series. I'd recommend checking out the first movie even if you do watch the first season, since the movie expands on certain things and makes the main antagonist more compelling.

I definitely agree with ducklife that the second season, Nanoha A's, is great.

Utawarerumono has 2 anime with a 3rd one slated, but I really love it for the visual novel.

I would recommend the show as an enjoyable watch. I was actually introduced to the franchise through this anime because I really liked the characters, storyline, and world building. It gives isekai-esque vibes at the beginning of the show with a relaxed atmosphere at the beginning, but then picks up in story a bit later on. Do note that Utawarerumono: Itsuwari no Kamen is actually a sequel to Utawarerumono though. Itsuwari no Kamen actually spoils one of the biggest plot twists of Utawarerumono, so it's suggested that you watch Utawarerumono first. Though, Itsuwari no Kamen is okay to watch standalone. Also, it's nice to see the old characters of Utawarerumono pop up in Itsuwari no Kamen. Furthermore, there's a sequel to Itsuwari no Kamen that has been announced which will have a lot more to do with Utawarerumono.

Most of them are pretty new. Hope to see the third season of konosuba and the second season of no game no life in my life time. The movie of violet evergarden is just fantastic, cried several times while watching it.

+ | No Game No Life is such a gem, imo-- really one of the only Isekai that have aged well for me, tbh. I think it's because I found that the story transcended the genre of Isekai altogether.

Like I said, I'm also a huge fan of Violet Evergarden! I honestly think it's a show every person should experience.

- | I used to be a fan of Konosuba but I feel like not only did it age poorly for my own experience, but I feel like it slowly became the thing it was a parody of. Nonetheless, I see the appeal! However, I genuinely don't see the appeal of Oreimo ... No clue how I finished it. Then again, there's a show for everyone, I suppose.

I watched the first season of K-On! with a group of friends, but for some reason the second season has been on hold for a year or so... I'll probably get back around to it one day or another! It's fun for sure, but there are other CGDCT shows I prefer.
