BUILD A MONSTERGIRL WORKSHOP INTRO Hola and welcome! Those who have been on the MSG list for a while are familiar with the Honorary Monstergirl Competition. Under normal circumstances we would be announcing this year’s winner about this time, but a “minor problem” with the site interfered with those plans. But fear not! The contest will go on, delayed but not deterred. Before we get to the competition, however, I decided to offer a bit of aid to those who have refrained from participating because they couldn’t come up with ideas. Hence this 4-part tutorial; follow these steps and you too can create original mamono like a champ! And just to be clear – while I will be offering examples at each step, including building a sample monstergirl, this tutorial is not a monologue. I welcome questions. I fully expect comments, even if they (politely!) disagree with what I say. And if any past contestants want to chime in with their own insights, feel free! This is going to be a quick series; I’ll be posting every 2-3 days until the end, and it’ll only take that long because I’ll be holding for comments in between. Once this series is done we’ll start gearing up for the contest. |

PART I: CONCEPT The bad news is, this is probably the hardest part. The good news is, laying a good foundation here makes the rest of the process a lot easier. There are so many monstergirl write-ups out there, both the official Kenkou Cross stuff and fanmade, that it can seem like there’s no new ground to cover. Nothing could be further from the truth! There are several sources of fresh concepts on which to base original monstergirls. Folklore is by far the richest vein to mine for ideas. A review of the MGE will show that most of the official entries are drawn from Asian folklore. Other bodies of lore offer a wealth of fresh ideas… and it’s not as if Asian folklore has been completely tapped out. Gaming is another great place to look for inspiration. Several mamono are monstergirl conversions from the Dungeons & Dragons Monster Manuals. Among the official entries the manticore immediately springs to mind, and the marilith – a lamia/succubus hybrid – has appeared in not one but two HMG contests. Fiction also offers a plethora of monsters that are ripe for the mamono treatment. The official entries include the shoggoth and nightgaunt from H.P. Lovecraft and the various Wonderland monstergirls inspired by Lewis Carroll… and the nightgaunt was an HMG entry before it got an official write-up. An oft-overlooked source of ideas is nature. Several official monstergirls are based on real animals – the grizzly, the honeybee, and the giant ant, to name a few. If all else fails, try an image search; perhaps a picture will inspire a thousand words. For those who are ambitious enough to attempt multiple entries I recommend having a theme. A common source – i.e. the same body of folklore or the same fictional universe – can provide inspiration for several honorary monstergirls. Malise did this in HMG3 with her series of Lovecraftian entries, and they were well received. Because I am a generous soul, here are some websites to mine for ideas. Encyclopedia Mythica (https://pantheon.org/) Online D&D Monster Manual (https://www.dndbeyond.com/monsters) Wikipedia’s lists of legendary creatures • Africa: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:African_legendary_creatures • Australia: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:Australian_legendary_creatures • Celtic: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:Celtic_legendary_creatures • China: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:Chinese_legendary_creatures • Egyptian: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:Egyptian_legendary_creatures • Greek: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Greek_mythological_creatures • Japan: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_legendary_creatures_from_Japan • India: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_legendary_creatures_in_Hindu_mythology • Lovecraftian: http://monster.wikia.com/wiki/Category:H._P._Lovecraft • Mesoamerica: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:Mesoamerican_legendary_creatures • Mideast: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:Middle_Eastern_legendary_creatures • Native American: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:Legendary_creatures_of_the_indigenous_peoples_of_North_America • Norse: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:Creatures_in_Norse_mythology • Southeast Asia: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:Southeast_Asian_legendary_creatures • USA: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:American_folklore_legendary_creatures And now for the promised example. I found this picture during one of my zen websurfing sessions and decided it would make for a great HMG entry… but instead of entering it in the contest I’m making it part of this tutorial: https://i.pinimg.com/736x/60/dd/42/60dd426c1045062a6bf92fe5de01dfc6.jpg Cute, ain’t she? While I found this in an image search the artist was clearly working from a mermaid theme with inspiration from a type of fish not normally associated with mermaids. We’ll call her the hippocampus since that is the name of the mythical sea horse as well as a genus name for real life seahorses. Next session: Description |

Thanks for doing this @tygertyger I think this competition was pretty cool when I saw it first last year, so its great that its happening again this year and to have a little tutorial to get a better understanding. I think I might have some good concepts, but I have no idea where to start with the description so I'm looking forward to the next session. |

I'd like to add a few things to that if no one minds. As a global advice, considering the site and such, I think you shouldn't really care about being similar to the mge, or respecting some anime rules. Just make your concept the way you find it most interesting. And to add a source of inspiration/way of going about it, you can start with concepts that you're curious about making work as a people. (like most of the entries I've made, probably) What I mean is taking things like 'heat', 'speed', 'adaptation', 'spiral', 'copy', 'sacrifice' or notions like 'having control over their senses', 'dependent on other MG but mutually beneficial' etc. Just starting from a base concept, physical, magical, social and so on, and developing it. Also don't be afraid to take new spins on things that exist, like the 'reverse Phoenix that dies whenever it revives' I suggested to Nox last year, but for some reason he didn't like it, still not sure why :/ And go crazy if you feel like it, put the hair as glowing colored glass tubes filled with magical magma dust if that's what you want. Hell, make it pulse, spin, whatever as long as it doesn't take a ton of effort to describe and isn't restricting. That was way longer than I thought. Huh. :3 |

PART II: DESCRIPTION While the concept is the hardest part of creating an original monstergirl the description is the easiest; it’s a short passage stating what the species looks like. It also contains a capsule description, generally one or two sentences, of what mamono of that type are known for and/or a summary of their typical behavior. The description is the first paragraph of the entry. There is one other component of the description, and that’s the taxonomy. The taxonomy block appears in the following format. NAME Family: ?? (check the MGE for where the species belongs, or the curator can fix it in edits) Type: ?? (see above) Habitat: (where the species usually lives) Disposition: (three adjectives about the species’ personality; “lustful” is often the last) Diet: (what the species usually eats; spirit energy is an option for all mamono, but most can – indeed, probably need to – also eat other things) The taxonomy block comes first, followed by the description paragraph. Here is the complete description for our example. I based the habitat on the biome that real seahorses live in and based the disposition on the social habits of reef fish – my inspiration might have started with a picture, but nature definitely informed my creative choices (more on that in upcoming sessions). *** HIPPOCAMPUS Family: Mermaid Type: Seahorse Habitat: Coral reefs, kelp beds Disposition: Gregarious, laid-back, lustful Diet: Fish, crustaceans, spirit energy The hippocampus is a mermaid with the prehensile tail of a seahorse instead of the finned tail common to mermaids. Hippocampi come in the stunning variety of colors typical of reef fish, and their hair and eyes can be just as colorful. The hippocampus is among the rarest of mermaid types – most marine monstergirls know of them, but few outside of the reef communities have ever met one. *** Next session: Abilities |

I believe I already have an idea in mind for my entry... Anyone in this club that has known me for any length of time could probably guess what it might be. But to them I would say... "You're partly right." For my entry I'm going to take a lot of inspiration from a game that I greatly enjoy playing. To more create a group or set of monster girls and use one as an example than just create one particular monster girl alone. It might be a bit tricky to pull off but that'll be what will make it fun. If I don't make any sense here then I hopefully will when we all share our completed entries. |

I'm going to be honest--I LOVE the HMG competition but my own personal pet peeve is mamono based on natural animals. It isn't at all that I think these are bad ideas--so many of them are very good ideas that I think we should get a small team together and just pound out all of them in one sitting. I mean really...some of them write themselves. This mostly pertains to beastmen and harpies. Skunk -Releases powerful pheromones when frightened/attacked/aroused -Is often easily run over by passing wagons -Is probably ridiculously adorable Sloth -Loves to climb -Super lazy -Is probably ridiculously adorable Tasmanian Devil -Scrappy, especially with things bigger than her -Abnormally high body temperature -Is probably ridiculously adorable White-throated Needletail (the name alone is almost a story) aka Spinetail Swift -The fastest harpy in the sky -Screams uncontrollably while mating -Is still probably ridiculously adorable Wolverine -Mutant healing factor -Calls you "bub" -Is ridiculously--Wait...what was I doing again? Maybe I'm wrong and there is an entire huge universe where it's worth exploring everything from armadillos to wombats but I personally like to see the really unique stuff. Just my opinion, and this is Tyger's show, but I wanted to throw it out there (while I try to squeeze something else interesting out of my grey matter for this one) |

PART III: ABILITIES This is the part I like to call the “why you want one of these as a companion” section. The entire point of this bit is to describe the species’ significant abilities and limitations – basically, what’s cool about them and why it sometimes sucks to be them. This part usually consists of two paragraphs but can be up to three. The first paragraph should describe the species’ physical, mental, sensory, or magical abilities in terms of how they compare to other mamono and/or humans. Any quality in which the species is equal or inferior to humans should be mentioned here. The baphomet entry specifies that they are the strongest mamono type, while the lizardman write-up states that they are only slightly stronger than humans. The superior sense of smell possessed by canine mamono goes here, as does the night vision of feline monstergirls. The second paragraph is about the abilities that set the type apart – what they are particularly good at in terms of physical/mental traits, learned skills, or magical talents. Examples of traits that belong here are the dragonkin’s ability to assume the ancient form, the curse magic of the anubis, the apophis’s venom, the kraken’s ink, the lizardman’s martial training, the sleep magic of the weresheep, or the cockatrice’s running speed. If this section is brief the type’s particular limitations can also go here – as with the blue slime’s deficient intelligence or the limited strength of the imp and fairy. If the second paragraph is particularly long or detailed the limitations can go in a third paragraph instead. Now that we know what goes in this section let’s look at the hippocampus’s ability set. The natural abilities of real seahorses are the source for most of the traits listed below. *** Like all mermaids hippocampi are natural swimmers who can breathe both air and water and cast a water-breathing spell on land-dwellers. A hippocampus is not a fast swimmer; an athletic human can easily outpace one. Her swimming ability focuses on precise control of changes in direction and depth, and she can use her powerful tail to anchor herself against the strongest currents as long as there is something to hold onto. Because she can’t use speed to catch prey a hippocampus employs a quasi-magical ability to generate powerful suction that draws prey to her mouth from up to a body length away. All mermaids have exceptional night vision, but as dwellers in the shallows hippocami have a lesser version of this talent; their ability to see in dim light is only slightly greater than that of humans. A hippocampus, like most mermaids, has a line of specialized scales along her flanks that can sense vibrations as well as changes in pressure and depth. This ability is particularly well-developed in the hippocampus. Most individuals can sense obstacles and creatures at a distance of over two dozen body lengths, and they can use this ability to find prey or to navigate through twisting passages even in murky water. The specialized scales are also erogenous zones, and rare is the hippocampus who can maintain her composure when stroked along that line of scales. A hippocampus’s fishy parts are lightly armored, and she can change the color of her skin and scales to blend in with her surroundings. This last ability is why hippocampi wear little or no clothing; they can camouflage their bodies but not their garments. *** Next session: Meeting and Mating |

PART IV: MEETING AND MATING The last section is the, “why you really want one of these for a companion” section, a.k.a. “what makes these girls so good in bed,” or, “what fetish these girls appeal to.” The first paragraph describes the species’ approach to finding a mate and how mamono of that type commonly conduct themselves in a relationship. Are they predators who violently attack men, do they specialize in poaching from other monstergirls, or do they gently woo their mates? Are they dominant or submissive (or both by turns)? Do they employ physical force, force of personality, trickery, or magic? This is where you discuss how the kappa uses childhood play to find a husband well before she comes of age, the violent aggression of the ushi-oni, or the mind-melting spores of the matango. This is also the place to mention any preferences of target – i.e. the akaname’s preference for men with poor hygiene, the lizardman’s insistence on martial prowess, or the alraune’s willingness to take any human she can catch. The second paragraph is about the species special sexual talents, preferred techniques, or sex-related warnings. Examples of what goes here are the slime’s ability to be penetrated anywhere on her body, the sphinx’s passion-inducing riddle curse, the ghoul’s oral fixation, and the arachne’s talent for bondage play. In the warning category is often some trait that “flips the switch” on the species’ typical behavior – the normally calm ryu’s inverted scale that can trigger a sexual frenzy, the haughty anubis becoming a quivering sub during doggie style intercourse, the gentle harpy becoming a sex-crazed predator during mating season, and so on. If there is anything special about the species’ reproduction this section is a good place to mention it. The closing paragraph is the final part of this section. This bit is simply the “happily (or not so happily) ever after” of life with this kind of monstergirl. Done properly this closing will either make you jealous of someone who is fortunate enough to be caught by this kind of monstergirl… or feel pity for anyone unlucky enough to fall into her clutches. We finally come to the end of our example. For your reading pleasure, the final paragraphs of the hippocampus entry! *** The hippocampus’s approach to mating is similar to her approach to finding a meal; she can’t rely on speed and aggression, so she uses a powerful draw instead. Hippocampi are among the most skillful flirts in the sea. Hippocampus mothers make a point of teaching their daughters that humans who aren’t worried about being raped are more likely to stick around for conversation… and conversation is great for wooing, especially if one takes the long view. The task of mating is complicated for hippocampi by the details of their reproduction. A hippocampus has no uterus and therefore can’t get pregnant. She needs a human man or a futanari to fertilize her eggs, but she also needs a human woman or another mamono to brood the eggs. A hippocampus has a vagina like any other mermaid, but she also has an ovipositor – in a sense, all hippocampi are futanari. To have children a hippocampus must have sex with her husband and then transfer the fertilized eggs into her wife’s womb – each transfer involves several eggs, so multiple births are the rule. Successful transfer requires getting the eggs clear into the womb, which the hippocampus accomplishes by gently thrusting past the cervix. Some women find such deep penetration uncomfortable while others can only speak of it in tones of wistful awe. A hippocampus uses similar tones to discuss any sex act in which she penetrates the other party – the ovipositor is also her clitoris, so having that organ engulfed in a warm, wet orifice is supremely pleasurable. Because having a family means finding a husband and a wife a hippocampus is indiscriminate about who she uses her seduction skills on; she’ll flirt with pretty much anyone but another hippocampus. And since mamono are so much easier to find than men, a man who meets a hippocampus will probably get double-barreled flirting from the hippocampus… and her wife. Few men can remain unmoved upon meeting two women who love each other so much – and when invited to love those women and be loved by them in return, few men could resist. *** Next session: I will post the hippocampus entry in its entirety so that you can see how it flows. After that it’s all over but the comments. |

Now to be fair... That hippocampus example is pretty damn good! The abilities and meeting/mating paragraphs for them are both creative and actually logical when you think about sea horses in nature. I can't wait to see the completed entry! Better get to work on polishing mine up as well... These examples will help out a lot. |

I think this example perfectly illustrates how one can use an animal as inspiration for the abilities and flirting/mating rituals of the monster girl that is based on said animal. Especially those who have trouble coming up with ideas how to flesh out their entry might want to look for animals or plants they like and read their Wikipedia page. Usually one can find enough things about that animal or plant there to use and make the entry unique. Though sex and mating are an integral part of the MGE, I would like to urge all contestants to not solely focus on it. Many official MGE entries are surprisingly lacking when it comes to describing the monster girl properly. Often the entry mostly, if not solely, focuses on how they try and get a man and how they gonna mate with said man. I think this is a missed opportunity, as to me a monster girl can bring so much more than just sex. |

Thank you. As I foreshadowed, nature was very much my primary inspiration for this example. Shortly after seeing the picture I knew I'd have to do something with the fact that it's the male seahorse that gets pregnant. :) Often the entry mostly, if not solely, focuses on how they try and get a man and how they gonna mate with said man. I think this is a missed opportunity, as to me a monster girl can bring so much more than just sex. Most definitely! Some of the most interesting entries in previous HMGs have explained in detail qualities of a species that had little or nothing to do with sex, or else made the type's "meeting and mating" a logical consequence of those qualities. I especially liked the well-thought-out culture of the baianai (because I geek out about that sort of thing), the unique magic of the mi-go (biomancy is a rarely explored avenue of magic), and the perfect ecological balance of the caterpillar and butterfly (bonus: they became official MGE entries!). If you think of your entries in terms of how they'd work as companions in stories, you must give them traits that make them interesting between h-scenes. |

Here at last, the complete example: HIPPOCAMPUS Family: Mermaid Type: Seahorse Habitat: Coral reefs, kelp beds Disposition: Gregarious, laid-back, lustful Diet: Fish, crustaceans, spirit energy https://i.pinimg.com/736x/60/dd/42/60dd426c1045062a6bf92fe5de01dfc6.jpg The hippocampus is a mermaid with the prehensile tail of a seahorse instead of the finned tail common to mermaids. First a disclaimer: My entry won't really be styled to completely resemble the monster girl entries we're all familiar with. It's more an exploration of an idea more than anything. But I think it's still worth sharing and this is a good an opportunity as I'm ever going to get. Cursed ones: Family: Magical material Type: sentient weaponry Habitat: Bitterblack isle Disposition: Various Diet: Blood, human mans spirit energy The cursed ones were a set of once ordinary weapons that have achieved sentience through prolonged exposure to the dark and evil magic that plague Bitterblack isle. They were the trusted and valued companions of many brave and courageous warriors that met unfortunate ends at the maws and claws of the vile monsters and horrid creatures that stalk the shadows of the island. All of them carry the tragic stories of their doomed former owners cruel fate. Tales of loss and sorrow. Of hardship and suffering. Of betrayal and sacrifice. Although the details of their stories have only been shared with the very privileged few. Perhaps it's the twisted will of the island itself... For it appears as though when there are none left alive to torture. Then it seems that the very magic of the island will create new life to torment. For these forsaken beings truly do befit their namesake. Tortured with the memory of their final moments and tormented with the knowledge that nothing could be done to prevent it. Condemned to forever wallow in the despair of their former owners terrible demise for all of time. Or are they? Once they have been found by new courageous warriors that braved the islands horrors they may be given a new purpose and meaning to their existence. Unfortunately such prolonged exposure to the dark and evil magic of Bitterblack isle has also left them unusable as they are. Marred with a heavy dark substance that covers almost their entire surface has made them completely impractical as weapons. Perhaps a final insult to add to their unfortunate existence on the islands part. To be properly wielded as weapons again they must be brought to someone who has experience with the cursed items of the island for purification. Only when they have been cleansed of the heavy dark substance that covers their surface may the cursed ones true shape be revealed. The procedure may have vastly different outcomes but some appear to have a similar theme. Once the cursed ones have been tainted and given sentience by the magic of Bitterblack isle they generally seem to exhibit a darker hue to their original metallic grey or silver colouring. This group also more often than not seem to have glowing markings along their surface in various shades of scarlet and crimson to reflect the deep enmity within. When the cursed ones have been newly purified they are no better than any other weapons at first. The only difference being they are able to faintly communicate with their new owner telepathically to make their sentience known. Their voice will however gradually become louder and clearer in their owners mind as they continuously travel with them and develop their bond. But as the cursed ones absorb the blood of those they are used to kill with they will grow in power and develop new abilities unique to them and them alone. These abilities can be as wide and varied as the cursed ones themselves. However most seem to be connected or linked to their previous owners demise or in some way ironic to the way that they perished. Some manifest this as being connected to the emotional state of their wielder. While others may take up an elemental effect and power. Once they have absorbed enough blood they can even take on a more humanoid appearance. Naturally their appearance in human form can be vastly different from each other as well. However some do have a few similarities. For example most appear to have darkly coloured skin that is usually the same as their darker hued material while in their weapon form. Additionally having glowing scarlet or crimson eyes that seem akin to the patterns that decorate their surface while in weapon form. Once they have achieved this humanoid form they can freely shift between it and their weapon form at will. So long as they are kept well satiated with the blood of their new owners enemies or with their spirit energy. Of course whenever they do transform into their humanoid form they are left completely in the nude and must be provided with clothing or cloaks to hide their unnatural appearance. This is to avoid drawing unnecessary attention to themselves if they are brought to any kind of civilisation outside of Bitterblack Isle. Of course they also shed and leave the provided clothes behind once they revert back to their weapon form. While in human form they are capable of summoning a shadowy duplicate of themselves in weapon form to aid in combat. However this copy is rather brittle and could easily be shattered or dispelled if they are not careful in their use. It's hard to make very many blanket statements when it comes to the cursed ones. Because all of them are different and unique onto themselves. However one blanket statement that could be confidently said is that all of them greatly appreciate being maintained. It's not as if they need maintenance to remain effective however. The dark and evil magic of Bitterblack isle enchanted the resilience and durability of the materials that make them up to a point where they need no maintenance whatsoever on their owners part. All they need to sustain themselves is to absorb the blood of their owners enemies when used. Or their owners spirit energy while in human form. Instead they would indeed welcome any kind of maintenance on their owners part simply because it's a pleasurable and relaxing experience for them. Buffing, polishing, rubbing or generally cleaning them with a cloth rag is the equivalent of receiving sponge bath or massage for them and so they greatly like it when their new owners does so. Another blanket statement that could be confidently said is that all of the cursed ones lament the death of their former owners. However even this is not shown in the same manner because every single one could have vastly different ways of displaying or dealing with their sorrow. (A further explanation of these ideas are shortly to follow) |

Explanation: So if you don't know what I was trying to do with my entry or where I got my inspiration from. Let me explain. I got my idea for a set of sentient weapon monster girls from a game called "Dragon's dogma." More specifically the expansion that's called "Dark arisen" that takes place on "Bitterblack isle." Like MetallumOperatur and tygertyger suggested my ideas aren't entirely centred around sex. I was more trying to create specific characters with widely different personalities and abilities that could fall under one blanket category. Which is why I couldn't really fit everything I wanted to say into one entry. I had to leave the entry pretty vague because of it. To compensate I thought I would split it up between one entry that gives a few base guideline ideas to work from and give examples of those ideas in a separate text. Namely here. So without further ado here are my ideas for some of these "cursed ones." I'll be listing the name and description of each weapon that's given in game so you can hopefully see my line of logic. "Bitter end" "A longsword lined with ominous patters that reflect the deep enmity within. It senses the negativity of its wielder and sharpens its edge to match." Bitter end is longsword with a fruity and pleasant voice that is unfortunately a little spoiled by her bitter (hehe) personality and usual negative opinions and view on things. She is none the less incredibly loyal to whoever her new owner may be and will serve them to the bitter end. Just as she did with her former owner who fought to his last breath against impossible odds. (Hence her rather fitting name) Her powers revolve around sharpening the edge of her blade in proportion to how powerfully her wielder is feeling negative emotions. To a point (hehe) where she could conceivably cleanly cut through other blades, shields, armour and even solid stone if her wielder is feeling particularly angry or upset. Her human form is that of a girl with obsidian black skin that has a tall and slender build. She has shoulder length straight dark red hair along with glowing dark red eyes depending on how bitter (hehe) she is feeling. "Devil's nail" "A hammer that awakens an uncontrollable bloodlust in any who wield it, no doubt a remnant of a doomed former owner." Devil's nail has a smooth and seductive voice but unfortunately has a cruel and sadistic personality. She attempts to use her inviting tone and charming voice to seduce and convince her wielder into committing the most brutal acts of violence wherever and whenever possible. Her powers revolve around being able to psychologically coax out her wielders bloodlust to transform them into raging monsters on the battlefield. Strengthened by their anger and made uncaring for any wounds or pain they may go through while in combat they won't stop until everything around them lies broken and bloodied. Be them friend or foe. So her wielder must be careful of who is around when they allow her to use her powers. Otherwise old friends, close family members and innocent nearby bystanders could end up targets for her sadistic indulgences. In human form she resembles a girl with obsidian black skin. She has an average height and a thicc build. (If you know what I mean) She has long and straight dark red hair with glowing dark red eyes depending on how excited she is to indulge herself with more bloodshed. This constant want for carnage however only serves as form of escapism for her to avoid dwelling on the painful emotions she feels at her former owners death. "Diabolic shield" "An enchanted shield bound with a mesh of secret magicks, they say it has the power to transform its wielder's despair into fortitude." Diabolic shield is a shield with a calm and collected voice. She isn't easily shaken or provoked by any surprising events or unusual situations. She takes everything on with a stone wall attitude and resilience. Her powers centre around taking away any negative emotions and thoughts related to fear or doubt and uses them to further enhance her protective capabilities. Leaving her wielder level headed and able to move and fight unhindered by fear or doubt. Regardless of what creatures or monsters they may be facing. In human form she resembles a girl with obsidian black skin. She has an above average height and a thicc build. (If you know what I mean) She also has short curved dark red hair and dark red coloured eyes. "Dread aspis" "A shield whose scaly exterior was shaped by pure malice. It's said to channel the fears of whoever wields it into a wild sense of empowerment." Dread aspis is a shield with a hearty voice and an upbeat personality. She takes a rather uniquely optimistic view point on the world around her when compared to others of her kind. Despite being made from the same evil and sinister magics that made all of the other cursed ones. Her powers revolve around taking any and all negative emotions like sorrow and despair and converting them into positive emotions like courage and bravery. Not only protecting her wielder against physical dangers but also defending her wielder against metaphysical threats as well. Allowing them to fight in the most daring (if a little reckless) of ways. Possessing such belief in themselves as to accomplish the most boast worthy feats imaginable in a fight with complete confidence and gusto. In her human form she resembles a girl with obsidian black and dark red scales for skin. She also possesses shoulder length straight dark red hair and dark yellow eyes. Her upbeat nature is merely a way to honour her former owner who spent his entire life trying to look on the bright side of life or trying to find the silver lining in every cloud. Who only gave in to overwhelming despair and anguish in his final moments before his death. "Blackwing bow" "A magickal bow styled after a devil's wing and claws. Its strange and unsettling shape is a testament to its former owner's passion for hunting." Blackwing bow is a magical weapon that has a thickly accented voice with a stalwart and steadfast personality. She revels in the thrill of a good hunt for exotic monsters and creatures. Just like her former owner her powers centre around being able to magically guide the arrows that are shot with her to make sure that they hit their mark. Blackwing bow's former owner always managed to land his shots exactly where he wanted them and when the new owner picks up this bow it almost seems as though they inherited his exception marksman skills. She is one of the rare exceptions that doesn't actually turn into a completely nude girl when she shifts from her weapon from into her human form. When she transforms into human form she resembles a girl that has obsidian black skin with dark red curly hair and red coloured glowing eyes. However instead of being completely left in the nude she is instead covered with the pelts and hides of all the different unique creatures and monsters she's killed. Further decorated with necklaces and bracelets made from the teeth and claws of said creatures and monsters as well. "Boltbringer" "A longsword whose former owner met his death at the onset of a violent storm, it forever crackles with thunder enchantment." Boltbringer is a longsword with a rather young prepubescent sounding voice with an energetic and wild personality. Her former owner died at the onset of a violent storm and this caused her to forever crackle with the same lightning that struck and took her former owners life. Her lightning enchantment doesn't effect her owner but will send a powerful current through pretty much everything else. This means if its blade clashes with another metallic weapon her wielders opponent will be surged with an electric shock on contact if they are touching any metallic piece of their weapon. This enchantment also of course serves very well against metallic protective pieces such as plate armour for obvious reasons. Not to mention serving very well against regular creatures and monsters as well. Being both cut and electrocuted at the same time will most likely leave most enemies at the mercy of Boltbringer's wielder. While in human form she resembles a very young girl with a small and petite build. Having light purple skin, short frazzled dark purple hair and light purple eyes. "Twinterfang" "A hammer with dual spikes to amplify carnage. Excavated from a frozen cave, its ice enchantment is eternal." Twinterfang is a warhammer with a cold (hehe) and calculating personality with an even colder (hehe) sounding tone of voice. Her former owner was trapped in a frozen cave because of a sudden collapse that blocked off the only entrance and exist. Eventually freezing to death in a dark and lonely place. She unemotionally calculates her owners chances of survival if he takes certain avenues of action. Only recommending the choices she feels will have the best chance of keeping her new owner alive and discouraging the choices that even have a small chance of getting her new owner killed. This includes avoiding combat all together if possible or even abandoning her new owners comrades or friends to fend for themselves if it means an increased chance of survival for her owner. Even if such brutally honest opinions aren't always welcomed by her new owner. Her powers are retaining the same subfreezing temperatures that claimed her previous owners life. The harsh cold of the enchantment combined with the brutal force of the hammers surface usually spells death for any that face it. With a solid enough strike Twinterfang could even shatter other metallic weapons into pieces. The cold around the hammers surface makes such materials incredibly brittle right before the face of the weapon makes contact with immeasurable force. In human form she resembles a girl with an average height and thicc build. (if you know what I mean) She has light blue skin with dark blue eyes and shoulder length straight dark blue hair. There are a few ideas I pulled straight from the weapons and their descriptions from in the game. But to give you all one more example here is a completely original one. "Evils bane" "Once the blade of a noble paladin who ventured to Bitterblack isle on an ill fated quest to purge it of its dark and evil forces. However even if he did not succeed it seemed that not even the sinister magics of the island could corrupt his blade." "Blade with whom I have lived. Blade with whom I now die. Still one last heart of evil. Quell one last source of pain. Cut well old friend and then farewell." - The paladins last words before facing his final opponent. Evils bane is a longsword who has a breathy voice with a pure and elegant way of speaking. Her former owner was a lawful and kind paladin that always strived to do the right thing wherever he went. Doing all that he could to correct all of the evil and corrupt nature of the world. As such his sword inherited his values of always trying to be morally good and this is reflected in her powers. Namely that she is especially deadly and lethal when going up against evil opponents. The more sinister and wicked her new owners enemies are the easier and deeper she will cut into them. This is also reversed for innocent and morally good people. Namely if her new owner attempts to use her to harm morally good people then they will receive little to no damage whatsoever. This could actually come in handy at times because it's a sure fire way of determining if someone is guilty or innocent of a crime or if they have her new owners best interests at heart. If she harmlessly bounces off them it means they can be trusted. If she cuts into them depending on how deep the cut is then it means they can't be trusted. In terms of appearance in sword form she takes the shape of a slender but solid straight blade with a handle that leaves more than enough room for two hands. The ends of the cross guard and pommel all share the same design of a pear or spherical shape. The entire sword is also a gleaming pure white that almost seems to give off a faint light that is all its own at times. Especially when in dark places. In human form she takes the shape of a girl with an average height and build with very pale white skin. She has very long and flowing white locks with white pale eyes. Any thoughts or constructive criticism of this are welcome of course! |

tygertyger said: The examples though... That gives me an idea for the contest... I'll get the contest announcement out by the end of the week. After thoughts: I didn't really get into how the "cursed ones" approach and view sex so I'll try to quickly summarise it here... They're all different. Summery over. Okay. Okay. Since you might want examples to understand what I mean I'll use some of same cursed ones that I listed above. Emotionally complicated ones like Bitter end won't really actively seek out sex while in human form. So I feel it will have to be more of a matter of gradually developing a deepening bond until it eventually builds up to a sexual relationship. Perhaps going through various battles and trials to do so. Emotionally manipulative ones like Devil's nail would probably try to use their seductive voice and human form E.G sex as a way of convincing their owner to do whatever they want. An absurdly exaggerated example off the top of my head would be Devil's nail saying something like... "I'll suck your d**k for five minutes straight for every tooth you can knock out of that monsters/mans mouth." Or... "I'll let you have your way with me for as long as you want if you can shatter that monsters/mans ribcage in one swing." Stuff like that but more subtle and little more graceful... Or maybe not. Whatever floats your boat. Emotionally protective ones like Diabolic shield may use sex as... For search of a better term a "pick me up" or as a way of "raising their owners spirits" if they're feeling down or are in some way doubting themselves outside of combat. Emotionally spirited ones like Boltbringer may simply be curious of what feelings her humanoid form is capable of experiencing. (It is a sword that has gained sentience and then gained a human form after all) As such she may simply want to explore and experiment with all of the different possibilities with her new owner." Emotionally stunted ones like Twinterfang may view sex as a "purely practical" solution to her constant want to keep her new owner alive. Here's my reasoning for that rather weird sentiment... Since Twinterfang's main objective is to keep her new owner alive at all costs she wants to choose the option with the safest possible outcome. Naturally this involves avoiding all kinds of confrontations/battles because there's an inherit risk in them. But she also wants to be well nourished and in tip top condition for when a fight is unavoidable right? So she is better able to help defend her new owner right? You probably already know where I'm going now. Since she can only "feed" on blood and her owners spirit energy when she feels "hungry" instead of seeking out a fight so she can feed on blood (because that involves risking her owners life) she'll instead seek out her owners spirit energy. She might have an ever so slightly pleasured expression while she's doing the deed or she may have a completely blank expression. Either way it's a "purely practical" solution for her. And lastly for my own original example... Evils bane like Bitter end probably wouldn't actively seek out sex while in human form. She would probably only voluntarily have sex with her new owner as a reward for doing particularly noble deeds. Or perhaps she's okay with doing whatever her new owner requests whenever the need arises. (And I do mean ANYTHING as long as it's not evil in any sort of way. This even includes kinky BDSM kinds of stuff at a stretch.) As long as he continues helping people on their travels and continues to be a morally good person of course. Maybe some of this will also give you a few ideas as well. @tygertyger XD |

I get a little tingle in my heart knowing that Su is still around =) And I actually had a brainstorm of awesome for the HMG this time. So many good tips in here for making the entry better all around. It doesn't matter how good the concept is if the execution is terrible (probably my main problem) |

Oh I've had an idea 'buzzing' around in my head for this ever since the end of the last competition... I'll certainly be entering at least one MG entry when this next competition starts, but I'll still be trying to think of overs until then. |

Just skimmed through this thread again and I must say there are quite a few tips in here that can help a lot with coming up with an entry. So I definitely recommend giving it another read-over! As a foot note: sometimes simply browsing through monster girl art, can yield you a picture that inspires a whole entry. A fair few of my entries were built around cool pictures I had found. |

Who loves ya, baby? In order to stimulate y'all's creative juices well in advance of the next contest I have assembled a gallery of images as a starting point for creating new honorary monstergirls. https://www.pinterest.com/tygertygerwalton/tygertygers-mg-gallery/ If you have a Pinterest account you might be able to edit the notes on an image that you want to use. If you can't edit the pin, or if you don't have a Pinterest account, just message me and I can do the edit. Addendum: Some of these pics have titles, but don't feel beholden to those. If one of these images inspires you call your entry whatever you like. |

HMG XII will soon be upon us! As part of my efforts at inspiration I present the full write-up of the proposed HMG that tempted us with her charms for the last four days. Presenting for your viewing pleasure (because you can NEVER have one as a companion), the incomparable... GODDESS Family: Spirit Type: Deity Habitat: Celestial realms; anywhere humans can live Disposition: Regal, nurturing, romantic Diet: spirit energy; demonic energy; worship [https://i.pinimg.com/736x/20/92/45/2092459f7e4ba5999c4f9519be6a5fdc.jpg] The spirits known as goddesses are among the most powerful beings known to exist. The least of them have magical ability that can be literally world-shaking, while the greatest are not so much individual beings as personified forces of nature. One goddess is a creature of great potency, but a group of them working together -- a pantheon -- wields phenomenal cosmic power. As deities goddesses can live on ambient magical energy whether it’s mamono mana or human essence, but their favorite food is the worship of mortal beings. A goddess grows in power according to her number of worshipers, and there is no known upper limit. Goddesses aren’t actually mamono. They are embodied spirits connected to natural forces or abstract concepts that they refer to as domains. A goddess’s domain influences every aspect of her being, especially her appearance and powers. For example, a goddess of the woods might have green leafy hair and powers of floramancy, a sea goddess might have fish scales and skill at faunamancy (focused on sea creatures) or hydromancy, and a goddess of war could have natural armor and a host of combative magics. A goddess often displays exotic coloring of skin, hair, or eyes and might have bodily modifications appropriate to her domain such as horns, wings, tails, additional eyes, or supernumerary arms. Most goddesses have humanoid bodies, but there are rare individuals who have bodies resembling those of nonhumanoid mamono such as centaurs and mermaids. Most goddesses have only one domain, but uncommon individuals may have two and rare ones can have three. A goddess has little or no talent for magic outside of her domain, but within her domain her magical power can exceed even the grandmaster level. Scholars refer to this as divine mastery. Pharaohs, genies, balrogs, and lilim are the only mamono that can achieve even the lowest-level effects of this tier. Goddesses possess superior physical, mental, and social attributes. They have enhanced strength, speed, agility, and stamina as well as exceptional intelligence, emotional quotients, and beauty. The exact degree and mix of these boosted abilities varies according to a goddess’s domain. The most basic power of goddesses is biological immortality; they stop aging upon reaching physical maturity, and they are immune to mundane diseases and poisons. Supernatural pathogens and toxins can make a goddess ill but can’t kill her unless they were made using god-tier power. A goddess can die by violence, but given time she will completely recover from any nonfatal injury. The least powerful goddesses can grow back a severed limb in a matter of days, while the most powerful need mere hours to recover from being dismembered. A goddess also has the ability to generate an aura of emotion on all beings within range that are less than god-tier. The aura is usually of majesty or terror as appropriate to the goddess’s domain. The more powerful the goddess the larger the aura; the greatest can blanket an entire continent in awe or fear. When it comes to love and mating being a goddess is a mixed blessing. On the one hand their beauty and power make them highly desirable mates, and not being driven by a monster’s lust leaves them free to select spouses based on actual love rather than desire or desperation. On the other hand a goddess often misses out on a suitable husband due to being too slow to act; her immortality gives her the illusion of having plenty of time to come to a decision, and by the time she realizes her error the object of her affection has been claimed by a human woman or a mamono -- or worse, has died of old age. Goddesses have an unfair advantage, however; as denizens of the celestial realms they have access to their respective pantheons’ afterlives. It’s not uncommon for a goddess to claim her chosen man after his death, but this assumes that he worships her or another member of her pantheon. If not she must claim him or arrange for his conversion before he dies. A goddess won’t tolerate being part of a harem except with other goddesses, or perhaps with angels who acknowledge the goddess as the senior wife. An exception might be made for women or mamono who worship the goddess if they assisted with the husband’s conversion. Name That Mamono: Astrienne [https://i.pinimg.com/736x/6b/f2/53/6bf2536aee3c5e38e82ad3997abe5628.jpg] As a goddess of fate Astrienne is a divine master of divination, and even other deities consider her talent for prescience uncanny. She typically uses astrology or cartomancy to focus her ability, but she doesn’t really need such props. Seeing a few seconds into the future -- for example, to foresee danger or anticipate what someone is going to say -- is so easy for her that she often does so without conscious effort, and using precognition to predict an opponent’s movements makes her a supremely deadly martial artist. She is also a grandmaster of probability and curse magic, but she rarely uses these powers except to bless her worshipers or punish sinners. Her aura creates an atmosphere of otherworldliness rather than awe or fear, and that aura intensifies when she opens the third eye on her forehead. Astrienne is less outwardly impressive than most other goddesses because she’s petite and soft-spoken, but when she does speak up her vast intelligence quickly becomes apparent. Though she is a world class beauty by mortal standards Astrienne is considered rather plain among goddesses. The allure of her porcelain skin, silver hair, and bright blue eyes is diminished by her stoic demeanor -- she rarely displays emotion beyond mild amusement or a hint of disdain. The strangeness that she projects when she opens her third eye doesn’t help. Worst of all is her god-tier case of social awkwardness; what many people mistake for arrogance or standoffishness is in fact extreme shyness. Though she yearns for a partner who will love her through the eons Astrienne is too easily flustered (though she never shows it) to approach a mortal who strikes her fancy. She hopes someday to meet a man who will take destiny into his own hands and confess his love to her, but she has no idea when -- or even if -- this will happen. As is typical of seers Astrienne has a blind spot when it comes to her own fate. |
