| As Satan states in episode 10, demons started playing in Earth as primitive wild creatures which were killing themselves just to continue a battle for survival. So, how does violence and sex have a meaning in Devilman Crybaby, according to Satan's statement? Violence represents the perpetuation of species by killing other species (as we can see in the final episode war), and sex depicts the perpetuation of species by reproduction. In the anime you can see how sex acts as a demon invocation in Silene, or as an enhanced feature in Akira after being possesed by Amon, expressed in a body improvement. Both appear as a depiction of what a "demon" is and why humans aren't too far from them. We keep those natural and irrational feelings that make from us "demons", but we hide them inside our human elaborated feelings and we justify that humankind is only made of human developed feelings. |

I suppose that reproduction could explain the purpose of sex in the original demons from the Earth, those who weren't as conscious as humans (supposedly, the anime demonstrates the opposite) and only knew about killing and sex, not even implying lust. |

Even "The End of Evangelion" or "Berserk" are not tagged as hentai, because they take the concept of sex in a meaningful way for the story. But maybe it's too suggestive to be considered as ecchi. I had some doubts before putting "hentai" in the title, "sex stuff" could be more fitting. |
