I had recently watched Hal and I'm looking for an anime or manga where one of the characters has gone through something traumatic which ended up mentally breaking them and they need someone to support/help/take care of them. I'd prefer if the person taking care is somewhat older and mature. |

- Kuro: Slice of life/fantasy manga about a girl and her demonic cat. The girl has a traumatic past and is taken care of by the cat. I like this manga because although the setting is extremely dark, it is an adventure filled slice of life told from the perspective of the little girl making it a bit unique. Manga is complete and fully translated. https://myanimelist.net/manga/67979/Kuro - Berserk: Action/Dark Fantasy manga which I'm pretty sure you have heard of. However the main focus is on the action rather than the characters. Female MC gets raped and loses her sanity, male MC takes care of her. https://myanimelist.net/manga/2/Berserk - Somali to Mori no Kamisama: Fantasy setting, it is about a young girl whose family is dead. She is taken care of by a golem who acts as a father figure to her. The story is about the golem trying to find humans so the girl can have a family. The series is currently ongoing. The girl here is perfectly fine though and does not suffer from a breakdown. https://myanimelist.net/manga/95452/Somali_to_Mori_no_Kamisama - Seirei no Moribito: Like the previous recommendation, the person being protected does not suffer from a breakdown. This is an anime about a prince who is haunted by a spirit and so his father and kingdom are hunting him down. His mother hires a female mercenary to protect him and the manga is about the mother/son relationship between the characters and the mercenary trying to adapt to the role of a mother. All the characters are likeable and the anime also has a good english dub. https://myanimelist.net/anime/1827/Seirei_no_Moribito |

+1 Seirei no Moribito Anime: (descending priority) Usagi Drop: Man takes care of his late grandfathers little daughter. 3gatsu no lion: Depressive outsider is very welcome at a families house. Speed Grapher: Veteran war photographer goes all out for a girl in trouble. ef a tale of memories/melodies: Totally filled with those things, in so many ways. ReLife: Dont wanna spoil the fun, fits the request though. Koe no Katachi: Kinda everyone needs help in this show. And kinda everyone tries hard to give as well. Akatsuki no Yona: Warrior taking care of a princess, turning her into a warrior princess. Very deep and drama heavy. Liked it alot. Chuuniybou: Well. Yeah. Title says it all. Death Parade, in some interesting way. Cant really be described. Sakamichi no Apollon: A rather shy and indecisive guy meets a really cool guy. Sakurasou: Shiina best waifu? Even though I probably shed many tears, its probably more of a comedy, but features the "taking care of" part for sure. Cross Game: Basically, they take care of each other, with both protagonists having their ups and downs, giving and receiving help. Same as for Cross Game goes for Kuzu no Honkai as well. Maybe Claymore, its bad though. Manga: Usagi Drop (continues after anime) Ibitsu Nana to Kaoru Sundome |

I still feel bad for Aoyama T~T Thanks for the suggestions. |

Just wanted to say this if you choose to read the usagi Usagi Drop manga The anime (and the first half of the manga) create a beautiful father daughter relationship between the characters however in the later parts of the manga, the author suddenly changed this father daughter relationship into a romantic one for shock value. I personally hated this about the manga as it felt a bit wrong (idk how else to put it). In any case I think you should be aware of this before reading it because it ruined the manga for me. If you like the father/daughter relationship that the anime sets up you should check out Yoningurashi which is a manga by the same author. While it does not have the trauma etc that you were looking for it is a great manga about family. I have not read it fully however I very highly doubt it will end like usagi drop. |

Its a great and immersive ride. |

I started with the anime, watched 3 episodes so far and it's really sweet :3 I like it! I'll see whether to pick up the manga or not after I finish with the anime but at this point I find it a bit hard to imagine romance between those two. |

Its a great and immersive ride. Let's not argue like 10 year olds about something as silly as taste. This personally ruined the manga both for me and a lot people I know. I never said it is bad, its just that incest can leave a bad aftertaste for some people. While the male MC may not be the girl's biological father, he was a parent to her and raising a little girl just to become her lover is well... a bit fucked up to me. I made this comment only because I wish I had known this before reading the manga. The anime was amazing but the manga (while not bad) is something I wish I had not read. If the op is ok with this then yeah they should go ahead and read the manga but if not, it can get really uncomfortable really fast and for this reason, spoiler or not I think people who wish to read the manga should be aware of this because the anime set an entirely different tone. |

Overfoxed said: Sakamichi no Apollon: A rather shy and indecisive guy meets a really cool guy. Finished watching Usagi Drop, it was really lovely. I started with Sakamichi but in ep 2 there was a scene about the church and them singing very familiar hymns, are there going to be more scenes like that? I hate the religion and I don't use headphones while watching anime so I don't want my mother (who is a Catholic and a strong believer) to end up hearing such things and coming rushing in to bother me about how even Japanese follow it :/ |

The Catholicism in Apollon is present in the background throughout. For instance, Sentarou wears a rosary around his neck. That hymn you heard them singing is most definitely not from the Roman Catholic tradition though. It was "Oh, What a Friend We Have in Jesus," from the Protestant revivalist tradition. Apparently it's very well known in Japan. I don't see Kurenai on your list. It features a 16-yo boy who moonlights as an enforcer. His boss gives him the job of protecting a seven-year-old kidnapped heiress. |

I don't know about it's origins but I remember it being sung here in a Roman Catholic Church while I still used to attend mass. I'll check out Kurenai, thanks :) |

I've heard that it is commonly sung at Mass in Japan. Maybe elsewhere in Asia as well? Here in the US it is strongly identified with the branch of evangelical Protestantism known as "revivalism." It's also associated with religiously-oriented addiction recovery programs asking our "friend Jesus" to assist in the process. |
