Notifications: Notification when new episode airs/has aired.

(I don't know how much of this has already been implemented or considered to be useless.)

I'd like to see a notification on a new episode in my list. For example, when an episode of a currently airing show comes out, the database matches this new info to my current episode progress and when they do not match it shows a "!" or some icon next to the title or after the "more" and "info" links.

When the icon is clicked an info windows slides open (like it does with the "more" link) and it shows me how many new episodes there are, and which release group it came from (and perhaps a BT link...?)

I suppose this does require new episode information to get stored into the database, but I remember reading something being in the works for that? If it isn't, you could just allow users to "add a new episode" to a currently airing anime in which they just fill out the number and pick a release group from a droplist (and possible add a BT link).

I'd like this because I wouldn't have to drop by all trackerpages everyday just to see what's new. I could just load my list and see if the night brought me more goodness. Another plus would be that in the info page for currently airing anime, info on how far it has progressed could be included.

Again, sorry if I missed earlier discussions on this, I can imagine this might've been suggested before.

Mod Edit: Modified title for clarity and/or easier searching.

Um, you do know about the "Fansub Release Notification", correct? You just want this on top of that, yes?

Unfortunately I can't go storing torrent links on the server. MAL will definitely get nailed for something as big as that. We can store episode information though (and you're right, this is in the works).

Ah, too bad about the torrent links.

And yeah, I know about that current notification system, but I believe that emails you the notification doesn't it? I'd much rather have that info on my list itself.

As you confirm though, it is in the works. I hope you allow the described list notification option too...

I for one, and i'm sure many others like me have a huge amount of 'currently reading' manga, purely due to the fact that i start reading a manga, only to find that it only ever gets updated once every blue moon. I have them all in mt 'currently reading' because i found them all interesting, and i am simply waiting for them to be updated.

I was wondering if it would be possible for MAL to somehow notify people when the next chapter/episode comes out (mainly for manga) so that even with very inconsistant updates, we can still keep up to date with them. For example:

I start reading a manga, and get to chapter 10. I'm really enjoying it, but the scans stop there. No one has translated the rest. For the next couple of weeks, it comes out on a consistent basis, allowing me to easily find it, read it and add it to my list. Then however, for whatever reason, it gets dropped. There is a year long wait until another group picks it up, and by that time, i am no longer looking out each week for updates of the manga, and so miss it being updated, creating a huge backlog in my 'currently watching' list, as i am loathe to move it out as i am still technically still reading it. I just don't have the time to check every day to see if each of the manga has been updated.

HENCE I suggest a notification whenever such a chapter does come out.

I realise that it would be quite hard, as MAL does not seem to be directly connected to any database of specific manga chapter uploads. HOWEVER, a possible solution could perhaps be to connect a notification system with the opening of each new discussion thread associated with a new chapter, e.g. When the 'Ubel Blatt chapter 111 discussion' thread is opened (i.e when the chapter is released) I get a notification, so that i know that it has been released.

I know that it's kind of a far fetched and problem-riddled suggestion, but perhaps something similar could be suggested, or implemented.

Thanks

either use tags or anichart.net, just keep it open all the time. or the anime airing sites will have new eps updated every day, you don't really have to remember the day.

i disagree with this
first of all, that would be quite annoying to people who watch all or many of the airing ones
and i assume the time of airing in sites like gogoanime/kissanime and the time of airing in anime page are a bit different

i will suggest you to do the same thing i do; refresh the site (i mean whatever site u watch anime on) from time-to-time

HELL NO!!!
All TV Anime got airing schedules and airs every freaking week!
That's freaking why they added the broadcast time and day!

I wouldn't care for this feature, but not sure why you guys are so adamantly against it. All notifications have a toggle option.

Here we go again... If you want RSS feed, ask it on the site where you watch the anime, NOT HERE.
But if you are so damn lazy, that just a simple check cause you physical pain, then this will not help you. So I suggest stop watching (airing) anime its not your thing.

The 2nd suggestion is already in... its off by default (?), because its goddamn annoying. You can change it in the settings (at least try to check it before you make this kind of suggestion).

I don't really like the idea since some people watch quite a lot of airing anime, it might get annoying sometimes.

But the option to disable that notification would solve that problem, so I guess...

I really don't care about it that much.

What about my post? As I said, the broadcast schedule was on the anime page.
This suggestion would be useless if the company was delayed to release an anime they acquired but the episode was released in Japan.
Like Kuromukuro acquired by Netflix. Unless you go to blackhat option but MAL won't support it because they are partnered with legal streaming.
And how you keep updated with the latest episode? Was it knowing the broadcast day? (e.g. every Fridays at 23:00)
Or you are one of those idiots who constantly asking if the anime they watch had new episode even if it's not day they of their broadcast?
Haters always gonna hate.

Because you didn't even replied to any of it.
Since when you started watching currently airing anime?

I do not need this. And it probably would be a lot of work because different release sites have different times and maybe sometimes there is a delay so it would have to been checked manually.

Much easier to check for yourself since all of the airing anime air weekly. And for finished anime it is not relevant. Just check once every few days and you'll be fine.

Some sites offer RSS feed (one site that collects torrents of all anime files where my favorite sub files also have their torrent listet got RSS).

Easy to use a feed reader with filter options and notification thing.

I suggest google calendar + someone needs to create calendar events for each anime series.
Maybe the websites streaming those anime themselves even offer such service.

Like I usually import certain football matches and my-club-relevant events into my google calendar, and then I have them there.
Iirc. I could configure to get notified and stuff, but don't want that so don't really know.

With so many members there should be lots of fans who actually know how to create such import-able calendar-thingies for this or that currently /soon airing series.

And I guess there are alternatives to google.
*darn, using my right hand is off-limits for a while. Typing with my left hand only is ... eww.*

As with all other notifications, if you don't like it, just turn it off. It wouldn't be very difficult, and for people who aren't watching large numbers of anime concurrently (such as myself) OR don't want to bother going through the hassle of checking the release schedules of every anime, it would be a nice OPTIONAL feature to have. No one loses anything when they're given more options. You can choose to use it or ignore it, but don't judge and insult others because not everyone follows the same routine you do.

THANK YOU

like i said
its optional.. i dont understand how people can say
"NO I DONT WANT MORE OPTIONS"
