| Yes. Season 1 explains how Ichika came to the academy and how he met everyone. As for the plot, I would say S2 starts it off. |

| You won't understand a thing in Season 2 without Season 1, since the staff didn't do a single thing as to even re-introduce the characters despite Season 1 being 1-2 years old. I'd suspect that anybody would have forgotten who the heck they even were if they didn't constantly watch the anime over and over again |

| I was wondering if it's necessary to watch the first season again if I want to continue with season 2, because I have almost forgotten whatever happened in the first season, except for the characters' traits, and the fact that Ichika is the only dude that can pilot that thing. |

| Yeah it's recommended that you watch season 1 first :D otherwise, you will struggle to understand what's going on in season 2. |

The "reboot" thing is in the Light Novel, where every volume was edited, re-printed and with different graphic artists. (and to be honest, better art as well) |
