Tsuiokuhen is a prequel to the TV series and Seisouhen is the sequel. So it's probably best to start with Tsuiokuhen, then Rurouni Kenshin and then Seisouhen.

The movie Ishinshishi e no Requiem is just a side story. I think you can watch it whenever but I'm not sure :\

as sayuri said, tsuiokuhen is a prequel to the series, seisouhen is the sequel...the movie takes place right after the last episode of the tv series when kenshin and the gang stops by yokohama on their train trip back to tokyo...this all happens after kenshin's final fight against shishio...

tsuiokuhen --> rurouni kenshin tv --> rurouni kenshin motion picture --> seishouhen

that's the order you should follow if you want to see kenshin's life in chronological order...however, it shouldn't make that much of a difference or affect your enjoyment of the series if you watch it another way...i would recommend you watch the tv series and movie first and then watch the ovas since the ovas have a much darker, violent, and depressing tone than the series or movie...

in the manga, tsuiokuhen and the first parts of seisouhen appear in the arc after they defeated shishio. because enishi appeared to make kenshin and his friends miserable (this is in seisouhen), kenshin told kaoru and the others about his past (which is about what happened between him and enishi's sister tomoe, as portrayed in tsuiokuhen).

actually a lot of things that occured in that part of the manga weren't animated, for some unknown reason. instead, they put in shougo amakusa and the other ones, which weren't even half as cool as the enishi arc. for me, that was really the coolest story in rurouni kenshin. there was a point when kenshin actually gave up (guess why). anyway, if you can, read the manga. at least that part. it's really worth it.

(i know this thread is old, but i can't help it)

For the most enjoyment, I'd recommend watching the first two seasons of the anime, then Tsuiokuhen. If you really need to see the Kenshin/Enishi fight, watch Seisouhen, but please take the story line of that OVA with a ton of salt, as it is vastly different from the original story.

I reccomend watching tsuiokuhen first followed by tv and movie then finish off with seishouhen
