| Yeah I agree the term is a little stupid. I think it's basically just used to call these multiplayer games that don't have any other clear genre. Call of Duty for example is a clear FPS and Starcraft is a RTS. Dota didn't have a clear genre, so they came up with a new one for it. |

| Where is the "other" option? And I don't think Garena DotA should be on the list. There are a lot of problems with Warcraft III DotA that have been addressed in DOTA2, and DOTA2 is definitely going to become the better game when everything is all said and done. You'd have to pretty loyal/blind to choose DotA over DOTA2. DotA was the genre. It was the game that popularized all of the other MOBA games. Most of the early player base from LoL and HoN are from Warcraft III DotA. People from League of Legends made up the word MOBA because they didn't want people to call them a DotA type game even though they were. They also owe a lot of their success to the DotA community, even though they basically stabbed the DotA community in the back. I don't even know what MU and Ran Online are. |

People just don't take it technically, so consider any game like Dota, LoL, Smite, etc. as a MOBA. |

You can only play the game by selecting a hero and fight other heroes selected by other players (you can't play the game without multiplayer element, except if you are happy playing against bots). While the games you mentioned like CoD has single player content, it is not a purely multiplayer game. Just like MMORPG. It has its own genre because it has to be multiplayer. RTS requires a lot more management in its gameplay, like units selection, resource management, multiple units micromanagement and base management to mention some of them. While in MOBA, your focus is just to control your hero (and a little bit of micromanagement) and make it stronger so it can beat other heroes. |

| None of these fucking games, that's for sure. If only the butt-monkeys in Microsoft hadn't shut down the Gaming Zone or whatever the hell they called it, and the original AoE multiplayer was still active. Better than any RPG out there, unlike the modern day, sad-ass, pay to do anything AoE knock-off that there is now. |

| Dota 2 is actually already in e-sports. Had internationals a few months back and a ton of other tournaments going on right now. Also if anyone wants to get into the Dota 2 beta let me know. Steam just randomly sent me 7 Dota 2 invites and I really don't have any use for them.(Any country except China can redeem it.) |
